trumpet inside air box pd100

Featured Replies

Hi. Can anyone tell me the difference between pd100 air box trumpet and vrs?

Read somewhere on here they are different but are they interchangeable?

The trumpet in my pd100 seems the next obvious restriction to modify.

Working my way back from the grille.

The trumpet I have ripped out is 60mm max internal diameter and is 108 mm long in total.

I was about to reply that they were the same and the logical upgrade would be to use the PD160 parts. But then I checked and was surprised to find the PD100/PD130 trumpets have different p/nos but the pipe is the same . Can anyone confirm what that difference might be?

I heard somewhere that the vrs is shorter with larger bore which is exactly what I am after but would love someone to confirm this for me.

In order to be able to use it, The bore diameter at fitting end must be the same.

Pd100 trumpet stuffs right up into the very corner of the airbox which seems stupid.

Well the air duct/pipe (#14) is the same for both engines so I guess the fitting end of the trumpet will be the same.

Yeah. That's what I thought. The air flow meter is the next bit along and I think that is of universal size. Thanks for your help.

Hopefully someone will come back about weather the trumpets are of different length.

I am running my remapped pd100 with it removed at the moment and it deffinately goes with a little more urgency!

Was told it was needed for correct airflow values but it seems fine unless anybody knows better?

I've just re-read your post title - properly :P. You seem to be talking about something inside the airbox - not the inlet duct on the slam panel (which is commonly refered to as the trumpet) - my mistake. I have to say you've now got me interested as the p/nos for the PD100/130 airboxes is different - I'd always assumed they were the same! Afterall, both engines share the same inlet pipe/duct and the same filter element.

I wonder whether Jason might be able to shed some light as he has replaced his PD100 lump with the - ahem - 'PD130'.

Yeah I mean the thing inside the top of the airbox.

The inlet pipe trumpet you thought I meant is long gone!

replaced by bigger and better. That's why this stupid narrow poorly possitioned airbox trumpet is buggin me. May just go without!

To clarify what we're talking about, I've taken a couple of pics of the PD100 set-up.

The trumpet does look tuned to provide less turbulant air over the MAF, but I've just removed mine to see if I can detect any difference - good or bad. I'll report my findings in a few days.

Yes - that trumpet in the pd100 airbox is a bit of a restriction and in my prior pd100 days I had ripped mine out my airbox. However in the vRS fabia, the trumpet is about half the length and a bit wider, so it probably is not a restriction, and might help with airflow pattern past the MAF. Never had an issue in the pd100, with that trumpet out, so whip it off. :D

Ok great.

I'll keep an eye on this then to see what you think.

I'm sure you can see what I mean now about it's positioning.

Be great if any vrs owners could post similar pictures so we can compare length!!!

Thanks Devonutopia for that info.

Does anyone know if the trumpet has a separate part number without ordering the whole airbox?

It appears to be an integral part of the airbox, so you would need the whole pd130 top half of the airbox. Trouble is with that, is I reckon the connection with the MAF wouldn't be correct them, which causes all kinds of issues.

I only know this as when I did my PD130 conversion, I had to replace the whole airbox/MAF setup with the gear out of the vRS fabia.

And sorry, but it's raining a bit at the moment so I cannot be bothered to go out and take a photo of my trumpet. "Comparing lengths" - sounds dodgy to me! :P

Alright Jason.

Maybe another time.

Thanks for that advice.

I guess I'll leave it without.

Turbulent airflow through the MAF just seems to give a more sudden throttle response.

Far more exciting!!!!!!!!!
