Paint thinners on plastic...good idea?

Featured Replies

The idiots who sparayed my car grills yellow want to send someone out to try and remove the sparay with paint thinners, now to me that just doesn't sound right, paint thinners and plastic didn't like each other I thought....does any one know for sure before I tel them what to do with the bottle

some plastics are ok , some not , and it depends on what thinners they use

personally i wouldn't let them touch my car again IMHO

i agree with ric, these guys would be the last people ever to touch my car again:mad:

I think the grills on skoda's are >EPDM< plastic, which is the same as the bumpers, thats ok with thinners.

If they f**k it up. just get them to buy you a new grill.

Dont let them re-texture the grill, cause it dont hold up to stone chips to good.

Best of luck.

No thinners are not "plastic safe".

As Ric says, some plastics will be ok, however thinners will pull any excess oils out of most plastics making them dry out sooner than they usually would.

Other plastic will go white and crack or melt.

Basically I wouldn't let them near the car unless they paid you enough money to go buy a new car.
