When I take the key out of the ignition on my Octavia 4x4, the auxilliary bits no longer turn off (radio etc). This also means that in this state, the remote locking does not work, and the windows still operate. With the inition turned on, it also sometimes happens that the electric windows will not work, nor will the mirror adjustment. Does anybody know what the mechanism is that controls this? I have tried squirting electrical contact cleaner into the keyhole, and this seems to improve things, but as it is a (so far) intermittent problem, that may not be the case.

Not something I've heard of Ian but it may point toward a dodgy ignition switch.

Try to spray some WD-40 inside the ignition switch it might help.
