I'm sure a little remapping would soften the blow

Ha! Don't think hadn't thought about it. Only thing is I had the Fab to 180bhp which was great, but I was always wary of flooring it below about 2.5k rpm cos of clutch etc. How would it work with and auto? I mean would the mechanics, gbox etc be up to handling 170-80 bhp? Has anyone had an auto remapped?

When did/have you had your cambelt changed? Robert said it was due at 60k but I've phoned a few places and some have said 75k.
Mine was chnaged at 60k and recently at 120k.....

Talk to Jabba. I'm sure they've done autos in bigger VAG stuff (A4/A6 etc). I imagine they just adjust the map accordingly.

So you might not come out with as big figures, but I'm sure it would still be worthwhile

Spoke to Angel today. They said they done loads passat autos with same engine and no problems. Plus they offer discount to returning customers so it would be £250 instead of £300. I had my Fabia done by them and was pleased with it so I may well end up going back. Plus a bonus is the fact that they come to you.

Where are 'Angel' based and also what figures have they quoted?

They are based in the midlands somewhere but offer 'at home' service and have several nationwide branches. Not quoted figures exactly but their website claims +50bhp/65lb torque. That was approx what he said he did my Fabia to. Have a look at their site Chip Tuning VW, BMW, Audi and Alfa Romeo - Angel Tuning or call him, he's called Nigel. Genuine bloke.

Thanks for the link buddy.........wonder if they would do mine as cheap as yours......LOL!!!

The ZT was a lovely motor, what with the V8 rumble and the associated power, eve Clarkson liked it!. For the size of it , it handled really well too. It was VERY light on goodies though, it didn't even have rear electric windows which for a car retailing at £29k was a scandal.

I got a good deal on it though. it was not long after MG went bust (bought it March 06). List for the none SE was £29k but picked it up, brand spanking, for £16.2k. Bargain when you look at what else you could get for that. Only really got rid because of the running costs. Was confident that because I only do 6/7k a year I would be able to handle it but I sas putting about £60 a week in petrol in it. It got silly really. Was lucky to get double figures mpg. The blurb said about 21mpg combined. yeah, right!

I used to have ZT 260 also, funny how I am in a Superb now also! I quite liked the ZT but it got second hand very quickly and the low spec and metro like bits and bobs let it down quite badly. As for the fuel you could get 21mpg on a run, I did it most of the time. However I doubt that in fifth gear from 70mph the Superb is much slower, and with the slight tweak mine has had (Ahem) i reckon I could stick to the bumper of a 260 up to about 110mph

..............and here am I constantly debating whether to get rid of the Superb and get a ZT, hmmm, not sure now. I wish I could figure out what is missing from my Superb, it just seems soulless somehow. Might be time for a new thread.

Soulless is a good description of the Superb - designed by committee and developed and loved by nobody. Skoda have obviously had no meaningful design input on this vehicle other than two Tesco hooks and a brolly. If Skoda had been allowed to build an estate, they could have had all of the old Volvo market.

Having said that, it's a great work machine. It was the cheapest way I could buy a VAG PD AWX engine in a galvanised body heavy enough to tow my trailer. I'll never like this car though, although I respect what it can do - the engine efficiency is still unmatched by anything else.

The taxi trade know what's good for them.

rotodiesel.

Name me any car by any manufacturer within the family sector that isn't designed by a commitee! I love the tesco hooks and brolly but if they had built an estate it wouldn't have been volvo's market that would have been stolen, it would have been VAG market, or so they think, I think they are wrong personally because the badge snobbery still exists which would have kept the buyers seperate, plus I would have bought an estate and would have kept it due to their being much more going for it than against it. I so want to love it, although I feel like this about most cars these days to be honest. I have just spoken to the remap people as mentioned in an earlier comment, eibach lowering and a +50bhp remap, £625 all in, does that sound good to anyone?

What does the Eibach lowering consist of? Springs and Shocks or just springs? Also does this price include fitting of the Eibach bits?

Eibach springs, fitted, but on my existing dampers, this was something I was hoping that you would pick up on, I was waiting for you to comment and am glad you did. You are the man on this Baker21, please advise!

I can offer my advice mate no worries but the decision in the end is yours......LOL!!

I had an Eibach Pro Damper Kit fitted to my Bora and it was a great kit but the thing that bugged me about the kit was that it only lowered it 35mm.......I assume these springs are the same? If that drop is good for you then cool but if you are running standard rims it may not appear to make much difference.....

The other thing to consider is that if you just fit springs there is a danger of a 'bouncy ride' due to the weight of the car as while the springs will allow the car to sit lower the standard dampers still have the same amount of travel......

I don't know how much of that £625 all in relates to part prices, labour and VAT?

Eibach springs are commonly used on most VAG Sport Suspension set ups so you know they are the real deal.

I am no expert but it all depends how much you want to spend and what you want out of this modification? Handling? Looks? Value for Money?

IMHO I think that a similar kit that Fluffy fitted to his Superb for around £350 was a bargain.....V-Maxx Coilovers allowing full adjustment to any height and a respectable comfort ride.....

As I said though mate the decision is yours and I have only had good experience with previous Eibach products....

I hope we haven't stolen somebody's thread here, anyway, the remap on its own is £300 so that is £325 for the eibachs all in. I am on 17" solids at the moment but IMHO, nothing improves a car more than wheels so new 18s or possibly even 19s would be a must if I went thru with this. With this in mind, is it actually worth dropping it if I am going to put bigger wheels on anyway, will it make that much visual difference? Normally I like a car to be dumped in the weeds but the Superb has this odd thing going on where it is almost too long for its width (or too narrow for its length depending on how you look at it) and I am not sure if lowering actually appears to lengthen it, obviously that is purely subjective but that's how I see it. I also hate the front end grill design which is too high so possibly a Milotec or similar might help. Because I have a dark colour (Titan Grey) the chrome stands out and looks really top heavy. It doesn't look that way on lighter colours like Silver or Sahara Beige like yours. As soon as I start doing the maths though, I start looking at what else I could get for that investment and end up grinding to a halt. Bl**dy cars, so infuriating!

I wouldn't worry about it mate, more posts on the forum the better....

Putting bigger wheels on will change the arch gap that you have but it will also make the car sit higher off the ground resulting in a 'tractor' look which IMHO is not a good thing.....

£325 for Eibachs is coilover price mate as I suggested and would be my choice giving you the desired result....

The only other thing to do on the grille front is to paint it the same colour as the bodywork as some Fabia and Octavia owners have done with succesful results...

Modifying cars is always going to be a waste of money unless you intend to run it into the ground but it all depends on what you want out of your car.....

As I said buddy, the decision is yours!!
