Hi all!! I've just moved here from the Fabia section!

Featured Replies

Hello all. I'd just like to introduce myself. I'm deek72 and have just transferred to here from the Fabia section, having today acquired a 55 plate Superb Edition 100 1.9tdi Auto (tip) from Roberto1954. It's STUNNING! I've just spent the best part of 2 hours exploring it, continually finding new things with which to amuse my childish little self.

I just have a couple of questions for now (only about 1/3 of the way through the handbook so I'm sure I'll have some more question soon).

1. What's in that black tin-like box on the roof of the boot (R.H. side)?

2. What's that little red lit button at bottom of inside pillar beneath the seat belt?

Cheers.

Derek.

Oooh, a little red button, go on push it, push it, you know you want to!

I think the little button on the pillar is the kill switch for the alarms internal sensor, if you were leaving a dog in the car for instance so the car is still armed but the dog wont set it off.

AAhhhh!

Thanks.

Tin on roof of boot?

About time you got that avatar changed then Derek. :D

I'm pleased for you, it is a very nice car.

Have you found the nearside mirror can be made to dip to show the kerb when reversing, its kind of useful

Have fun with the new car and the toys........not sure what the black box is, never noticed it so I will go out a check ....when it stops raining:)

Thanks.

That must be a DSP and an amplifier for your sound system. If you import a Superb Comfort 2.5TDI V6 6-spd manual from Ireland, that's what you get as standard :)

Anyway, I have Rhapsody (double din) radio/CD + that DSP/Amp and the sound is VERY good at any power level. I guess with DX satnav it is same quality. Try it!

Welcome to the Superb forum and congratulations on your motor......my mate and I both rang Roberto about the car yesterday but it had already gone.....bummer......just trying to find another one now.....

The black box could be either Sat Nav or Stereo related I believe......

Did you manage to investigate?

Hi Deek, I have the same model of Superb Edition 100 as you... and also arrived at the Superb from having a Fabia (vRS) previously!

As DieselV6 mentions, I think the black boot box is a bass box / amplifier. I know when I was chatting with one of the guys from Simpsons in Preston he was going on about how wonderful the sound was with the additional Edition 100 bass booster / amplifier thing in the boot! I've never really investigated it to be fair!

I just came back from Germany at the weekend and had a new Audi A6 3.0TDi hire car with all the toys. Apart from superior Sat Nav and a wee bit more power, I got back into my Superb at Manchester airport and, being brutally honest, couldn't really see much extra to warrant the £30k price difference!

Like the 'sound' of this bass box / amplifier......hmmmmm

I have just convinced my mate to have a look at a Superb over an A6 as the smart choice is the Superb with all the toys you get......

Well done Deek, that car looked the nutz in the pictures Rob posted to sell it, how much did you eventually give for it if you don't mind me asking?

I would also like to know if the owner had paid to have the car 'Detailed' recently?

Don't mind you asking at all. He had my vRS SE and gave me £500. I don't think anyone was ripped off with it. Oh, and he put £40 of diesel in it for me (thanks for that Robert, that was really nice of you).

And Baker21, Robert never mentioned having it detailed or anything. it just looks and smells like a regularly cleaned car. And considering the relatively high mileage, the bodywork is spot on. Just a couple of miniscule chips on the bonnet.

That bass box/ amp thingy-to me it sounds nice and rich but i could swear it sounds like there is some type of sub/bass box somewhere!

All in all I'm pretty chuffed with it. I did have a little bit of (pre)buyers remorse on the way to do the deed, was I doing the right thing? its older than mine, more miles etc etc but that soon went. it's nice to have some luxury and space for a change and everyone who has seen it (and that's nearly EVERYONE!! lol) is wowed by it and can't believe it's a Skoda!

I've had some fast(ish) cars over the last couple of years (MG ZT260, Focus ST, 07 Type R GT (For 3 weeks the Type R Civic Type R Owners • Login , Peugeot 105 diesel lol! not forgetting the little Furby SE) an have decided it's about time I started to act my age now (48) and chill a bit!

Hmmm.....the paintwork looks in very good condition like it had been 'mopped' recently......fair play though if it hasn't......

As for acting your age.....I must be 'chilling' early as I am only 27 with a Superb....LOL!!

Excellent choice Deek

Wish mine was the auto now and again - what sort of mpg do you get with the Tiptronic box?

How many miles has the car done?

Congrats, looks a lovely car

Enjoy! :drivesaf:

Not sure about MPG yet, it's early days. The car has relatively high mileage for a 2 year old car (53,000) but everything feels fine, no smoke or anything and the gearbox feels smooth. And anyway it's warranted for another 10 months/7k miles so no problems there (I only do about 6/7k a year).

It will go on for miles mate.......mine is on 137k with the same engine but the only thing I wondered with this Superb is that is has an Auto box.......what's that like on the 1.9 engine?

That mileage may seem high for its age but in real terms that is not a lot of mileage at all. I wouldn't worry about fuel consumption, if you can run an MG ZT260, the Superb will feel like it runs on air...unfortunately it wont sound like it does but the 'bass in the boot' should fix that. I keep hankering after a ZT, are they any good?

It feels ok. it ain't no Fab vRS put it seems to pull fine if needed. Obviously the consumption does take a hammering if you push it with the weight of it, but it aint that type of car is it? Normal pootling(?) about its ok. When did/have you had your cambelt changed? Robert said it was due at 60k but I've phoned a few places and some have said 75k.

Sam:

The ZT was a lovely motor, what with the V8 rumble and the associated power, eve Clarkson liked it!. For the size of it , it handled really well too. It was VERY light on goodies though, it didn't even have rear electric windows which for a car retailing at £29k was a scandal.

I got a good deal on it though. it was not long after MG went bust (bought it March 06). List for the none SE was £29k but picked it up, brand spanking, for £16.2k. Bargain when you look at what else you could get for that. Only really got rid because of the running costs. Was confident that because I only do 6/7k a year I would be able to handle it but I sas putting about £60 a week in petrol in it. It got silly really. Was lucky to get double figures mpg. The blurb said about 21mpg combined. yeah, right!

I'm sure a little remapping would soften the blow
