Fantastic Fabia - Intermitent Power Steering?

Featured Replies

Please help! Recently bought a 51 plate Fabia 6 weeks ago and was told that i would need to buy a new battery as seller spent time working offshore and had trouble starting when he returned.

4 weeks ago power steering light came on and engine stalled after sitting in traffic for 45 mins. Put it down to dead battery as it wouldnt have charged whilst sitting in traffic. next day got a jump start but PS didnt come on for about a mile. I assumed until the battery had charged. The fu*ker failed again a week later so replaced battery for £90. Today power steering went again, came back on then car wouldnt start again at petrol station. Got a jump start and thinking battery issues it would cut back in again after a few miles but went 150 with no PS. Stopped car then started again an PS was ok. Frustrating and dangerous!

Could this be an engine management system, i know the PS is powered from the battery and if it is flat there will be no PS but surely with a new battery and after driving 150 miles it would be charged. Loose connection, where do i start? Low oil?

Do your lights sometimes flicker when you're driving?

If so it is very similar to a common fault in the early fabias - damp creeping in to the PAS sensor (I think that was it...)

The part's between £30 and £40 I think..

If you want to fit a replacement yourself, give this guide a look...

Ive had no issues with the lights but i lost the abs the other day also. Well i think i did, foot just seemed to go to the floor with loss of power. Felt very gravelly but i managed to stop in time and then everything was ok. It was too quick to notice if the abs light came on or not.

Cheers for the help. Do you think this could be what is draining the battery?
