Service Book

Featured Replies

I had my 40,000 mile service done recently which went well as everything was ok, and I also got the brake fluid done. But looking at the service book it seems to be a strange mixture of oil and inspection services:

i.e.

July 2005 - New car (previous owner)

December 05 - Inspection service @ 10k

June 2006 - Oil service @ 20k

January 07 - Oil service @ 30k

February 07 - I acquire car

December 07 - Inspection service + brake fluid change @ 40k

All main dealer servicing.

I'm just wondering why they did an Oil Service in Jan 07. Shouldn't this one have been an inspection service? How would this affect the warranty? (I don't think it has as the previous owner had a clutch replacement in Jan 07 under warranty). Statistically it's OK as it has had 2 inspection services in 2.5 years, but the gaps seem strange to me.

Thanks

Since this one's a bit quiet here are my thoughts...

Possible reasons for an inspection service not being done in January 07

1. Cost saving

2. Incompetence

3. Book not being filled in correctly

Sticking to your intervals is good but I don't think this lapse would ruin your car (based what I've read in Parkers etc). I defer to the mechanics out there of course.

My Grandad wasn't able to make a warranty claim on a Fiat he owned because it had missed its first service before he bought it (it's OK - he has a Skoda now :)). I imagine you'll be OK though if your car has been looked after by main dealers all the way.
