K+N v's Green air filters

Featured Replies

Well today with the weather being so terrible I decided to clean the air filters out in my car(green) and bike(K+N). So after taking them both out I noticed a few differences.

the rubber around the Green was a lot more soft and plyable than the K+N which had gone quite hard and stiff.

the metal gause on the Green was in better shape than the K+N

And the actual filter area was less encroached on by the rubber around the edge, that is to say the actual rubber seal on the K+N had "bled" onto the filter area more.

the Green filter has done a total of 70K miles in 3 different Ibizas I've owned

130 sport,100 sport and my current 130 FR

the K+N has only done 18K in the bike from new.

So on the whole I would say in my personal opinion that Green are better made and last longer than K+N.

hmm must depend on cleaning, i bought my 04 fabia vrs and it had a green cotton air filter in it, car had 37k miles and the green filter was absolutely ruined, the guaze was all rusted and flaked off as soon as you touched it

Did you copy/paste this onto SCN, or vice versa? :P

Yep I'm a double agent like you lol

Is the bike filter more open to the elements?

Comparing two filters like this (one for a car, one for a bike) isn't completely scientific.

Comparing hundreds and coming to this conclusion would be, and therefore alot more accurate.

the bike one is in an airbox and about the same physical size as the car one,

but the car one has don 3 times the mileage and is in better shape,

If green did a filter for the bike I would definately get one for it, as having put the 2 side by side the construction of the green is far superior.

It's not a study it's just an observation,

Having used K+N for the last 17 years of motoring in various forms bike/car I've had nothing to compare them to as I'm not a fan of foam filters, this is my first Green filter and I shall be using them on all my cars in the future.
