Tappety/ticking noise.... when warm

Featured Replies

Hello!

Well i've noticed this a bit more recently, when idle I can really hear a tappety/ticking noise.... sometimes it seems faster than others (same idle revs).

It almost sounds like something is clipping something in the way, the cam cover wasn't put back on 100% by skoda and is a cm or two out... could it be something is clipping against the plastic? I doubt it though.

It's hard to explain, but i'm a worrier and now I think my engine is going to die in the next 5 minutes :rolleyes:

Cheers

....I might try and get a recording of it later if it comes out ok.

A cm or two?? you sure, thats a hell of a lot!

You say cam cover, do you mean the rocker cover or the plastic cover (about 2' square) that covers the engine?

The tappety noise could be just that, cam followers worn or just need adjusting, it however needs checking PDQ as they can wear a cam out quickly.

that noise is normal mate mine does it as well.

if you put your ear near the charcoal canister you will hear it louder.

Its on top of the passenger side arch

Ok, so my guess might of been a little off;

I'm fairly sure it's not the charcoal canister, I will double check this later on though... just incase!

Ok, just to confirm ... I checked this after a 40 minutes drive home and it's DEF coming from the side of the engine where the cam belt is. Infact i'd say i'm pretty confident it's either the cover isn't on right and is clipping something or they didn't do it right!

It was done about 5 months ago, would they charge to look at considering the cover isn't on properly?

:)

just take it into a vag specialist or the dealers and im sure that they will have a quick butchers at it for you

There should be a clip at the backside of the cam cover. Just check its snapped in place.

Well i've tried to push the cover "back on" or inwards and it doesn't want to seem to move....

Thinking the best thing would be to take it into skoda on Thursday :(
