PAS warning light

Featured Replies

The warning light came on a few days ago (although I had noticed slightly heavier steering over the last few weeks, just wasn't sure if I was imagining it!). I re started the engine and it was fine but it then did the same thing over the next few days each time I started the car. Last night the failed to go out after several re starts and leaving the engine until it had warmed up and I had great fun and exercise work out to get it out of the parking space I was in! (It was very cold last night) After reading other posts on here I am going to check the battery, although it is a fairly new battery and no sign of flickering lights but not ruling it out, whilst i'm doing that I will check the fluid levels, oh the joy of removing the battery to get at it!

If no joy there i'm thinking of trying the sensor as is a 2001 model so from what I have read could be the answer. (thanks to this forum fixed another sensor relaited problem so hope it is one of the above issues!)

From what I have read next to try would be the pump...then the rack which I don't like the sound of. Is there anything else I could check before I take it to a garage??

It'll no doubt be the sensor...

However, if like me (I'm a tight git) ... when starting the car the light may or may not come on (random), if it does come on, try engaging reverse, pressing down on the footbreak and ride the clutch to the point of almost cutting out the engine. Not sure why, but for some reason this seems to reset the electronics and the car now correctly detects the sensor as working and the light will have gone out and the steering should now be normal again. On some occasions the light doesn't go out, but the steering is still improved, just be careful during full lock to lock as that is when it loads up, still much more manageable though.

Hope this helps...

I would definately reccomend getting the sensor replaced

Definately!!!!!
