I've only watched a couple of Blu Ray fillums since upgrading the telly and very impressive they are. I hope to watch at least one a week in the Amazon DVD club so just wondering which fillums are best viewed in HD?

So far I've seen Casino Royale as it was free - very good.

And Ice Age 2 as CGI always looks shiny and spectacular on HD and this didn't disappoint.

Any more to look aout for?

I would imagine Close Encounters of the Third Kind will be pretty good now it's been remastered and stuck on B-R.

Bearing in mind the fillum is of course 30 years old now :o

the Spider Man trilogy and The Simpsons movie will also be worth watching (IMO)

Black Hawk Down

Simply awesome on blueray, you will be diving for cover during the movie.

BHD is good, although the start of the transfer has terrible noise on it.

Also, you have to bear in mind that a lot of films look particularly "grainy" in high def. This is how the original release was like - film is grainy, fact of life. However, most of this high resolution noise is lost in standard def transfers on DVD which is why some films once transferred onto HD formats are initially "disappointing".

Of course, with CGI films, you wont' get that :)

BHD is rather noisy though, and that's not just due to the celluloid, but deliberately intended to look that way especially during the action sequences to give it that "gritty" quality. Saving Private Ryan is another film that looked gritty on DVD - will be interesting to see what it looks like on high def.

Another point worth making with BHD on BD is the soundtrack, particularly the uncompressed PCM version. It's just amazing - and it makes me dive for cover more than the actual picture :D

Deliverance: Duelling banjo's in full surround

I loved Encounters when I first saw it, and it's been years since I watched it so it's going on the rental list cheers.

I will check out BHD as well, as I missed it on telly the other night and everyone says it's a commendable fillum.

I really like grainy effects in movies, The B&W section at the start of Casino Royale was particularly engaging, so I welcome such features.

I think I may take a look at Kill Bill and some music as well. Just waiting for the new amp to arrive and I'll be able to enjoy Dolby True HD surround sound. So far the Blu Ray discs have been really quiet compared to DVD on the normal Amp.

As for Deliverance - classic.

pearl harbor is apparently good on blu-ray, as is into the blue. planet earth box set is also available, and that looks good on SkyHD
