Phantom braking

Featured Replies

Thought I'd share this daft little problem to see if I'm the only one before it's booked into the dealer to get checked over....

Every morning this week I've been woken up by my neighbour knocking on the door to tell me that I've left my lights on, again.

The problem is that it's just the brake lights that are on. It must be happening overnight as it's fine when I check before going to bed.

The first couple of times I've just pumped the brake pedal and they go off. The last two mornings I've tried to be a little more scientific and pulled the pedal up to see if theres some play or it's got some dirt stuck in it, but neither is the case, but just pulling it against the stop turns the lights off?

So I'm wandering if it's something to do with the cold mornings we've had this week (although it's been through two previous winters including some time in the Alps without doing it) or if after 60,000 miles the electrics are begining to play up?

My next door neighbour flattened her VW Sharan's battery with a similar problem - it was down to the brake pedal sensor failing. Worth getting fixed before the battery goes.

BTW on top terms with her now, having come to the rescue with jump leads!

But is she cute?

Hot but needs to do something about her car!
