Been having various issues with central locking being a bit tempramental and windows winding themselves down at random either while parked, or moving... I've come to the conclusion the convenience unit in the driver's door has got damaged by a bit of moisture.

I took it in to my usual VAG specialist in Milton Keynes the other day and they found.... nothing. I think it may be because it was a really cold day so any moisture had frozen away from the electrics. Anyway, I wasn't too impressed that they didn't seem to have even taken the door apart to investigate visually, just plugged in diagnostic tools etc. despite me giving a hopefully fairly good description of what was wrong.

So, Inde-tech are going to have a go on Thursday. Mrs. O98 took the car in for them to have a look at this AM and they seem far more willing/able to get to the bottom of it!

Well, sod's law it was pretty cold again yesterday, so windows etc. were behaving tolerably well. Decision was to order a new CCU & see if that sorts the remaining niggles for good!

At the moment, the doors won't deadlock & the passenger side front window is a bit erratic winding up/down, either winding extremely jerkily or failing to wind back up again without having to resort to holding the door lock in the locked position. (Which only works on the passenger side anyway...)

Anyone had any/all of this & does it sound like a slightly duff control unit?:confused:

Did you fix this problem in the end? I have just had this happen to me today and the rear near side window is going mad when I drive along. :eek:

Still waiting for Inde-Tech to get hold of a replacement CCU. Will have to give them a ring, actually...

Fortunately, the worst of the intermittent problems are behaving at the moment. so haven't had to resort to pulling a fuse to stop the windows rolling down. Just an issue of switches not working as they should for the windows. C/Locking seems to be more or less OK last time I used it.

It does seem to be worse when it's been damp out for a day or two.

Well, Inde-Tech tried a replacemend CCU but still no good, so it's off with door trim & up with carpet & check wiring next job, when I can spare the car for a couple of days...

I have to say, the guys at I-T have been great going through this to try & find what's up! I'd recommend 'em! :thumbup:

I had similar problems last year. The central convenience unit and wiring loom in the drivers door was replaced.

Is the red LED light in the door behaving normally - is it flashing while you are driving or anything unusual?

Red LED is more not working than working at odd times. I can get the doors to deadlock sometimes but at other times not...

I've been meaning to make a full list of the symptoms but they tend to change from time to time... Which is why it would initially seem to have been a CCU issue...:confused:

That sounds very similar to mine.... When you get the door card off, look for the elec window motor. You will see a big wiring loom attached. You will need to slide a clip up to release the loom, but my guess would be that you will see corrosion in the loom/ motor (central convenience unit) connection terminals. If there is, this is probably the route of the problems. If you know someone who is good with auto electrics, they might be able to fix it. Otherwise, a new loom and CCU will be an expensive fix.

it was the one under the dash that gave me grief earlier this year.(2001 octy vrs)

bought one from a scrappy and got skoda to fit and recode it.

£80 all in iirc.

A bit of clarification is needed, the convenience unit is shown in the above picture, the unit in the door is a door control unit which is combined with the window motor and there is one for each door. Other things to check are in the left hand side of the boot that the washer pipe hasn't come apart at the join and soaked the electrical plugs, also similar in the tailgate where the water gets absorbed by the anti rattle foam pad that covers the electrical plugs also check that the boot lights work OK.
