No battery light

Featured Replies

When I turn the iggy on in my new to me 99 GLX TDI the battery light doesn't light up. The alt will rush up to 13.6 + volts if I rev it to self excite the alt. Is this a known "fault" or does the dealer have to provide me a new alternator or what? I assume the dash lights are LEDs?

TIA

Have you checked the connections on the back of the alternator?

you should have a warning light when just the ignition is on without

the engine running, and I would expect 14.3 Volts when running.

^^^^ what he said. Check the warning lamp wiring.

Cheers all. I've put a meter across the (brand new) battery and if you blip the throttle, it settles at about 14 V. I'll check th echarge wiring at the weekend when I get some light

Struggling with the exact same thing on my Fabia vRS so I am eager to hear what a solution might be :P

I didn't get under the car as it's all so filthy and mucky... I thnk it is the wire to the back, as it "self excites" on revving!

Just got in from the top whuilst investigating a diesel leak, and found that the second lead that plugs into the top of the rear of the alt was dangling. Pluggy, pluggy... Job jobbed!
