IMAP/SSL, e-mail and cellphone problem

Featured Replies

I use my cellphone as the last resort for reading e-mails (on journeys &c). It's an old Nokia 6060, till now it has had just the capabilities I need but maybe it has reached its limits?

Reading e-mails has worked fine earlier, but now we've got a new work mail server, using IMAP instead of POP - and SSL encryption.

I've tried to reconfigurate my settings and am sure I got it right (checked and double checked) but all I got is a "Invalid Password" message.

The operator support has hitherto been useless. Either 30 mins. on hold and then a possible solution that doesn't work - or e-mail correspondence which is of the kafkaesque kind - I'll spare you that (it isn't even funny).

I suspect that it's the SSL part that's the cause. Not sure whether my phone supports SSL. I only have two alternatives when configurating secure connection for incoming mail: "Deactivate" and "Login". No option mentioning SSL there.

There's no available software updates at Nokia's website.

We have a webmail option too at work, but the web interface is too much for my phones memory capacities:(

Any suggestions/possible solutions appreciated!

Which phone are you using?

Nokia 6060

I know that the N95 can do SSL email, as I use it to access my googlemail account. The 6060 I am unsure of.

Yes, the N95 seems to be able to do almost everything, including fetching you cold refreshments;) - only nag is the £500 price tab...

I have just read through the 6060 manual, and can see no references to ssl with imap4 unfortunatly.

Ah, well, I'd better start saving, then...

Thanks for taking your time
