Aircon rattle on full fan

Featured Replies

I can't find anything using the search so it's new thread time :)

My car has developed an annoying rattling/ticking noise from the dash when the aircon is on full fan.

It does it on economy or with the aircon fully on, so I guess it's a flap, or something inside a duct somewhere.

The question is, how do I find it?!?

Not to rub it in, but it was between 20-32 degrees all last week, so we had a lot of rattling on our hols :(

couple of suggestions: check the pollen filter isn't clogged and reset the flap with vag-com.

I had a stray leaf which managed to get past the pollen filter (probably when I was changing it).... this made a similar noise. You can get access to the bottom of the fan quite easily (remove the glove box and then 3 more screws IIRC. It might be worth checking before you start ripping the whole dash apart :P

Could be leaves stuck in the fan housing,Iv'e had that on mine. check for leaves etc by lifting the plastic scuttle panel. If its a leave it might eventually get shredded by the fan and youl get a face full from the vents.lol

from the vents. lol

I did a technical guide for the Fabia, here - don't know how applicable it will be for the Octy, but it might give you a few pointers...

Maybe this has something to do with it, considering it started out white:

This is after I vacced the leaves and feathers out of it - until I can get a replacement

The box was surrounded by dried leaves, which I also vacced out.

Hazzards of living "down south" mate.

Make a note to order a replacement filter in plenty of time next year.

ps. 10C here in sunny South London today, nearly burnt my corn flakes on the Bar-B-Q this morning.

Hi this sometimes happens at any fan speed. If a leaf has got into the duct, below the pollen filter. Sometimes (if you are lucky) you can fish the leaves out from above by hand, or stick the hoover down and wiggle it about. I has happened on both of my Octavias.

Well it did last three and a half years!!

The new filter seems to have fixed the problem for $31 (about 12 quid)
