Rs cutting out this morning...

Featured Replies

Reversing RS out of driveway this morning,

and the revs dropped below 700rpm and the

engine cut out, with the battery warning

light on. Restarted engine, and it happened again.

Only when I revved the engine hard was

everything ok. The revs stayed up.

I admit I had the aircon (econ mode) and cd on.

Could this be a problem with the battery or

something more sinister. RS is Sept 02

model, and only got a full 20k service

last week. Only 11k actually on her.

Any comeback ?

thx

Maybe a temperature sensor problem? It happened to my Felicia when a temperature sensor failed and told the ECU the engine was hot when it was in fact cold, with the result that fuelling was all wrong.

Hmm,

will try again at lunch time.

surely if the sensor has failed then I should be able to repeat the problem.

the garage advised to drop it in for a quick check on the computer.

Mine only did it first thing in the morning when the engine was cold, but it did happen each morning. In effect there was no choke to give extra fuel while idling, but the engine could be kept running with a bootfull of throttle.

on cold mornings, my revs can drop to a stall. just give the throttle a little blip and all is ok - will get it looked at at the first service.

Mine has nearly stalled twice, and actually stalled once in the last two weeks when starting up (i use the same 'software' as Huck)

Owned the car for 355 days now, nearly time for a service.

Variable?

My engine sounds as tho it runs on 3 cylinders when its cold first thing in the morning.

it coughs and splutters. I think the coil packs on mine r well faulty.

What i always do is blip the throttle for a minute b4 driving off. Its safe to drive off when the revs fall down to about 1K RPM. This is a wee technique i use on any car i drive. For some reason i dont believe in driving a car when the engine has jus started first thing.

It hasn't happened since. I put it down to reversing out of the drive without waiting for the lights on the dash to got out, and the same time had the aircon, rear heater and cd player on :) Dealers diag. check showed nothing wrong.

Mine was the worst it has ever been this afternoon (been stood still for a couple of days)

No fault codes in Vagcom.

Booked in next monday night with the dealer. Keeping it overnight to do a cold start in the morning.

What are the chances it "rights" itself between now and then?

I'll report back the results.

Cheers

Phil.

i've almost become used to blipping the throttle like some max muppet on startup and get no problems.

tried it yesterday without doing so..........chugga-chugga-chugga-splutter-stall.

if it becomes too much of a prob will get it in before the service.
