Emergency boot relase? it's stuck half open!

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me if there is an emergency boot releaese for the fabia?

I was fiddling with the bump stops to try to fix a leak and the boot is now half shut:confused:

anyone know how to do it or how I can open the boot? seems to be shut on one side but other is open. I have seen in the boot where a flap comes off and you can see thr boot release but not sure how to release it?

any help would be appreciated

does your remote fob not work ?

no it makes a noise as if the lock is trying to open bit it doesn't. thats with both boot release and fob.... I don't want to force it and break it.

Which way have you adjusted the stops? If down, I'd try lifting up on the tailgate (to relieve pressure on the lock) whilst using the remote, or push down if you adjusted the stops out.

I have adjusted them down as I thought the boot was pushing too much on the rubber and causing a leak. I have already tried this though :(

When I once inadvertantly got a branch caught in my boot on my vRS I had the same problem. It was jammed half open, no amount of pressing on the key fob or pressing down or pulling on the boot helped. I tried pushing it to make it fully closed but it just would not bite. I took it to the stealers in the end - they said it took them about an hour to fully dismantle the mechanism to free the thing up. It was done under warrenty however - I never told them I got half a Christmas tree caught in it. :P

I wouldnt have been too worried but in my case firstly the interior light stayed on when I locked the car, and secondly after the however-many second grace period the alarm would of course sound because the boot was not fully closed. :(

I once got a Polo boot stuck like that- something stuck in it- and managed to release it from inside by shifting the latch with a screwdriver.

Please tell me, how on earth you were fiddling with Suspenion bump stops, and magically locked your boot. You are a king! :thumbup:of completely stupid idiots!!!!!!

Drop the rear seats, remove the plastic cover from around the latch on the rear panel and pop the catch with a screw driver.

Indeedy, don't use you fingers for straightening the latch out - blood everywhere!

Who said anything about suspension Aaron?? :P

Anyway I have sorted this now. For some strange reason the locking metal grasp had got the wrong side of the hook on the boot and jammed.

A screw driver and 5 mins to figure out how to get it unprised was all that was needed.

thanks for the people who helped me out.
