Scuffed bumper....

Featured Replies

Some numbskull at my work has scuffed the rear bumper of my Octavia II.

Anyone had similar incident? He is prepared to pay cash for a repair, but Skoda are quoting £400 for a new bumper to be sprayed black which seems a bit excessive.

Anyone with experience of a bodyshop's repair to the plastic bumper? Literally been "scored" by his car, with white scuff marks the end result.

I'm in Dunfermline/Fife area if anyone can recommend someplace that is preferably open over the holidays!

Cheers

Howdy;

I'm assming that the scuff is surfaced (i.e. you can feel it with your fingernail)... a relatively easy fix for a semi-decent repairer...

If i remember correctly, my mate had some work done at Thomas Ritchie (Based in Fife); woork was very good (not on a skoda) and I didn't recognise he had an accident till he told me!

address is:

Ladyburn Place,

Skinners Steps,

Cupar,

Fife

KY15 4DY

Tel: 01334 653277

Best bit of advice i can give is take some pics of damage and call garages, e-mail them the pics and get estimates... i've had a front bumper replaced and repaired and it cost me £400 (inc. colour matching)... should have shopped around!!!

I would think from a body shop going non insurance a new bumper, paint job, trim insert etc would cost less than than.

I just got a new back bumper and trim, supplied, painted and fitted for £417, this was through Chathams at Halbeath. I scuffed my front bumper a couple of years back and got it painted at Paint Wizard in Stirling, think it cost about £80 plus a new trim.

There is a place in Grangemouth called Auto Cosmique who have a good reputation for repairing damage such as this. My sons mate put a courtesy car through a barbed wire fence, was a right mess, Auto Cosmique repaired it (think it cost about £250), looked as good as new.

I in the Bodywork trade.

Prices range from £75 - £120 for a simple bumper blow in.

Do not get a SMART repair company to do it.

They my be cheap, but they only use 1K lacquer and it will last about 12months before it will need re-doing again..

I was a mobile Smart repairer for nearly 2 years and i would not touch my car in the stuff.

Thankfully im back in a bodyshop now.

Thanks folks.

Got a "chips away" type guy coming round tomorrow, but it is surfaced as described above so would prefer to go down the bodyshop route.

Damned irritating time of year to get a minor repair carried out ;-)
