Wipers and washer woes

Hmmmm

Two problems with my new 53 plate Octy estate

Firstly, im not too impressed with the windscreen washers. I think they're the non adjustable type and they hit the windscreen too low down. When the wipers swipe theres a smear left towards the top of the screen. Its even worse on the passenger side for some reason.

Is anyone else having the same problem?

Secondly the only true fault i have found with the car is the rear wiper. It seems to run fine for a while and then stops working until i lift the tailgate and give it a slam. The last MOT sheet advises a new motor at a cost of £140 which i think was a shot at getting a few quid out of the last owner. However, im not sure that the motor would stop working just like that? The slamming suggests to me that its more likely to be a wiring or connection problem

Any suggestions or anyone had a similar problem?

Thanks - Andy

The jets on the front are fan jets and non adjustable, although some members on here have wiggle theres about a litttle from under thew scuttle panel I believe.

I don't have the smear issues (2001 Y), but mine did manage to run out of wash solution before the warning light come on on the dash - I guess the last week of commuting with wet roads emptied the tank much quicker than I was expected (probably due to the headlamp jets).

No problems with the rear wiper on my estate, but that said the boot is probably opened about every 500 miles (once or twice per week normally at weekends)

If it's the standard VAG rear wiper, they can and do fail. About 60 quid from Euro.
