Look in the for sale section or try E-bay/PistonHeads

I paid 6K for mine with 40K on the clock ;)

If your after a big boot then there is no contest

Don,t get a ST170 Focus!!!

My friend had one of these and was plagued with problem after problem. They are just complete sh*te and very bad Ford build quality.

VRs 1 st choice everytime mate

Not been in many Fords then obviously.

Ford build quality puts Skoda to shame, 130 cars on our cab fleet, Skoda's now rank as most unreliable i'm afraid since the launch of the MK2 Octavia.

I would suggest driving both cars first, they are very different cars, the Focus will out handle the VRs without question, but the VRs is probably slightly quicker and definately more practical.

Skoda most unreliable? which model? the Oct MK1 or Mk2?

Bournemouth has about 70% of these in our fleet and outdo any other model.

vRS if you want to tune it.

I have to say my vRS is the best built car i've owned. I've owned lots too.

I paid £5k for my 39k mile Mk1 vRS.

this is all helping thanks alot. where is the best palce to buy a vrs as cant seem to get on for under 6k.

Having been in both, the Octavia will be quicker (the turbo delivery means it has a lot more usable torque lower down the rev range), although the Focus will run rings around it in the twisties. I'd recommend you drive both, but bear in mind it will be easier (read cheaper!) to sort the handling on the Octavia than fix the lack of grunt in the ST170 :D

An alternative if you want a fast, good handling Ford might be the Mondeo ST220. Not many around on budget, but a look on Autotrader turned up:

Autotrader - FORD MONDEO 3.0 V6 ST220 5dr Hatchback

which is a lot of car, toys and performance if you can see past it being a Cat D :D

Mk2 Octavias are woefully bad, and Superbs can be hit or miss (they are either good or a nightmare).

The Mk1 octavias eat gearboxes and a few other annoying faults that recur at regular mileage intervals almost on the dot, otherwise the Mk1 is reliable, but still doesn't match the Fords or Toyota's.
