I think my turbo is going

Featured Replies

Afternoon All!

Ive not been a member on here that long but when i do come on i do know i can get a good responce!

Here Goes!

Purchased my '04 Fabia vRS from a local car supermarket and have had problems with my engine coolant tank for the past 6 months. The car supermarket and skoda believe my head gasket could be going as my car is loosing coolant but there are no signs of a leak anywhere!

Just recently ive started to notice that i can no longer feel the turbo in the car when i give it some revs (Around 1500 to 2500 rpm) Starting to feel a bit sluggish and like the engine is struggling to boot up to say 70mph?. I would of thought i could still feel the turbo as i have only been driving 2 years and started off in a 1.2 fiesta since october 2005! (Traded in July 07)

Would any of you kind ladies or gentlemen be able to give me any past experiences or knowledge on what a nackered turbo feels like or what to look for? i got a feeling this could be a ig job so any estimates would be good!

Many thanks to you all and hope you have had a good xmas!!

Hmm.....performance drop like this, I'd say MAF sensor rather than turbo. More commonly known to behave like this. Turbo failure is normally accompanied with bearing noise and then lots of smoke when it implodes.

MAF sensors are about £60 and DIY fit (tube between air filter box and engine) :D

When my Turbo blew up about three weeks ago, the entire group of cars behind me on the M3 noticed...there was massive amounts of smoke and a nasty smell and I lost an entire sump of oil.

I'd have thought the turbo goes within a drop of a hat, and its unlikely you would notice a gradual drop of performance if that was the culprit, also from doing alot of searches on the forum I got the impression a head gasket failure on the 1.9 TDI PD was nearly unheard of.

First thing to check is that all the hoses under the engine are connected as the jubilee clips aren't very strong and a common problem is hoses popping off resulting in a lack of boost.

Doesn't this normally go with lots of smoke through unburnt fuel?

Normally quite sudden too IIRC.....like when giving it some beans there'll be a pop & whoosh noise as the intercooler pipe comes off.

Check your brake lights as well.

The other week it felt like my turbo was on it's way out.

later found out it was the lambda sensor..

Ideally you need to get the engine codes read. probably the cheapest way.
