DSG---Cruise control

Featured Replies

With manual gearbox if cruise control set at say 50mph on going up (very) steep hill and need to change down, on operating the clutch it throws out the cruise control.

Not a big problem as it's easily reset.

What happens with Auto DSG box in the above circumstances?

The box would drop down a gear, i have the dsg with the 2.0 tdi 140 and when i drive up a local hill in 6th at 50mph with cruise control on just near the top of the hill it drops down to 4th. Hope this helps. If you are thinking of getting the dsg gearbox get it its amazing.

I second that - buy one

Yep, agree, although I'm not a 100% fan of the DSG around town in start/stop traffic - you can catch the box at the wrong time and it will lurch or clunk - I presume its because I press the gas pedal just as it is changing gear and confuse it.

Back to cruise control - with the DSG and with cruise on you can press and hold the increase speed button and the box will kickdown to build up speed quickly.

Driving through the Mersey Tunnels, with the cruise control set, my 1.9 TDI DSG, the gearbox does the work to maintain the speed. Have not tryed it in manual mode, I guess it would switch the cruise control off

The DSG is outstanding

I'd suggest reading some independant reviews of cars with DSG.

EVO magasine had DSG on the R32 on their fast fleet and don't seem to rate it particularly well.

I considered a DSG TT and test drove a few before I opted for a manual one. It seemed pretty good but I thought I'd get fed up of it as I felt less involved in actually driving the car.

I never drove one 'round town' so would suggest if you are seriously considering one then drive it in all road conditions that you are likely to experience.
