High pitched whistle on start up

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Just a quick one....

I have an 04 VRS with 32k miles on it, it has a dragon box fitted for about the past 3k miles.

Upon startup I get a high pitched whistling noise as it idles, its not very loud, but is noticable, when I apply the throttle it goes away then after a few moments back at idle it returns.

If I go for a drive and the engine warms up, then I stop and leave it at idle for a few moments it does not do it?

I have scanned the engine for fault codes using the free version of VAG COM and nothing has come up.

Any ideas?

They all do this.

I posted the same question a good few months ago - I forget the answer :o

Had a similar problem with my previous Astra once or twice - the alternator belt was damp and made horrible noise. Drove it a bit and it all went away.

The noise is normal, its the egr valve opening that causes the whistle.

The turbo can be heard more and this is just the turbo spinning noise.

Really is normal nothing to worry about, i think its quite cool tbh, sounds like a kettle whistling
