About to buy some new detailing products - advice

Featured Replies

ok i love to detail properly my car as I go to a fair few shows throughout the year. I have just sold on all the detailing stuff that was specific to my last car (due to it being such a different colour) and I am now purchasing 2/3 new products for my lemon yellow vRS.

Has anyone had experience in the following products either in terms of application or end results:-

Blackfire Wet Diamond Ivory Carnauba Paste Wax

to be used in conjunction with this:-

Blackfire Wet Diamond All Finish Paint Protection

Many thanks for any advice from all you enthusiasts.

thanks Cheezemonkhai not seen that site so its now bookmarked

detailing world is expensive trust me!!

Black Diamond stuff is good though but i wouldnt get sucked in to specific products for colours.

Plus you want one or the other with those two not both. Id personally go with the first one as it will give a better shine but wont last as long.

Failing that id go with this Dodo product range

Banana Armor is a good choice as it will be durable with a good shine but will take a little longer to apply

oh yeah i know they are expensive but i dont mind paying for something that works.

You can use both together to achieve a layering effect between longer wash/waxes or for shows but obviously not all the time.

As for waxes for certain colour cars I disagree in that it does make a hell of a difference if you use products that are tailored towards your car colour. On the golf for instance we were using Megs gold class for ages and then swapped to Poorboys Blue Natty's paste which is for dark coloured and metallic vehicles and noticed an instant improvement which resulted in Best MKV Golf at Ultimate Dubs. Use of Nattys Red Wax at VWNW last year helped to achieve an amazing paint finish to take 2nd in Best in Show also.

I like the dodo stuff but dont find it as easy to apply and get off as other waxes i've used plus with the smell i get more tempted to eat it than use it on the car

Just laid out a shed load on detailing products myself :o

Planning on giving both cars a complete overall, including swirl removal using the following in order:

Super snow foam/megs Hyper wash 50/50 thro foam lance

Megs Gold class shampoo

Megs Swirl free polish (or megs #83 cleaner polish deppending on severity)

Megs show car glaze

Poorboys EX-P sealant

Dodo Juice Banana Armor

P21 Caranuba wax (pete's 53 for red octy:))

Wheels will be removed and treated to a good scrub with acid free cleaner and rim wax applied.

Roll on the better weather, expecting to take a good couple of days per car :)

For info been using the following, Clean Your Car - car care products UK and E-Commerce

Cheers Postmanpat - you got some nice megs products there - all staples in my bag :) i too cant wait for a dry day to give the car a proper going over with a nice beer in hand.

Smelling products make you more tempted to use them.........you sound like me :D

I have to say that every time i use my zymol stuff i spend a good time smelling it before it actually apply it to the car lol

I'm doing ok so far I think, under £100.

I have just applied a sealant and then a wax over it (2xgloss guard + 2xcolli 476s) and have to say it looked great and the water seems to currently form beads and run off the panels which is great :)

Banana Armor is a good choice as it will be durable with a good shine but will take a little longer to apply

I've been looking at that too as the colli 476s is a hard wax anyway and as long as you apply it thin it's all good. How does this compare in terms of application, looks and durability to the colli?

Ooops he got you hooked then?

Why did you buy Hyperwash and Gold class. I didn't like gold class myself, but just curious.

Looks like you will be out most weekends reapplying the wax to yours then, as I heard the P21 doesn't last very long but does look good.

Was this a choice to get you out of the house more, or was it chosen by somebody to keep you out of the house :rofl:

I use Poorboys Nattys Paste Wax (white) on my yellow Octy

Usually after some Autoglym SRP or Jeffs Prime Carnauba

Want to try Dodo Juice this year.

Wash with SSF thru Autobrite lance, then 2 bucket using Jeffs Auto Body Wash

Wheels are done with Poorboys Wheel Sealant

Tyres are Meguiars tyre gel which smells soooo nice!

 quite like the gold class myself, mixing hyper wash 50/50 with snow foam for initial wash and gold class for 2 bucket wash with mitt ;)

I've got a Bilt Hamber AutoWash sample coming my way, but if it's good I'll be getting some of that after my Sonax.

Will be interesting to see what you think of the G220 as if it's really good I might eventually be tempted, but have to say the G110 @ $150 vs the G220 at £150 is a bit of a p*ss take :(

Which one is it? I think I either meed the Banana Armour (hard) or Orange one for my Octy if memory serves me right.

If it is either, that is a very generous offer and i'd like to take you up on it if you don't mind!

PM me if it is suitable and we can talk turkey ;)

Cheers,

Steven
