installing new radio + new speakers in my 98 felicia!

Featured Replies

So...i got tired of the 4*35w rms casette radio in my car so when i got money,i ordered a new Jvc 4*50w radio with some kind of "mos-fet" thingy...anyway

also got myself a new pair of front & rear speakers...

this is the radio/cd player:

these are the front speakers (they are **** i think,my dad advised me to order 10cm instead of 13cm thinking the 13cm wouldn't fit properly...i think he is wrong about that btw.

and finally, the ones i hand picked myself, and hope they're really really good for my trunk or as normally said As my Rear Speakers:

i haven't installed either the new radio/cd player nor the rear speakers cause i don't seem to know how to remove that stupid alpine casette player thingy from my car...

some help would be appreciated before my old man wreckes the interior :)

It cant be too difficult,

remove the alpine security face plate,

then you should have a cover around the edge of the stereo. There should be 4 tabs you have to push inwards to free the cover.

then you should have some keys / long bits of metal, these slip down the sides of the stereo, they should hook into place then pull them to remove the stereo.

Then unplug the block at the back of the stereo, its a big square one with about 20 ish pins, the new stereo will have a lead or a plug on the back which this plugs into

Remove the cage of the old stereo the new one will have one that fits, they may not be the same size.

It has loads of tabs that push into the car,

get a screwdriver to unbend them.

Fit the new cage and bend the tabs in like the old one did.

plug in stereo, test it and then slide it in.

The front speakers are 13cm ones.

I changed my front speakers a few months after getting the car and then put in some other 13cm speakers on the parcel shelf. Certainly sounds better.

whats a mos fet thingy?

whats a mos fet thingy?

didn't you know that

:D

If you haven't got the removal keys you can easily fabricate something to do the job, ie a broken junior hacksaw blade, strips of plastic cut from an old credit card about 10mm wide will also do, they only need to push the lugs away from the radio, usually you need the key to also latch on to the radio so that you can pull it out but in the Felicia's case you can put your hand up the back to push it out.

i've removed the alpine one (probably going to try to sell it for either 20 bucks,or set it on fire :)) (the second option pleases my mind when thinking about it,since the old one was such a darn pain in the ****)

and well..i've tried plugging it in and the tiny 10cm speakers sound like way better...i can't wait till' i plug my 16.5cm speakers in the back :D i love good bass...and oh yeah this radio/cd player has these "sound setting options" [bass/Discant/Treble/SuperBass(1-5) & of course fade/balance] and i love it...anyway... i might post some install pictures :).

Please do post some pics.

Did the 10cm ones fit OK?

I didn't even bother fixing my stereo in (as the previous one wasn't fixed in). The hole is angled back and it never seems to move anyway.

my old man is a very strange person to talk to....he seemed to go crazy when i came home this morning after driving for about 5-6 hrs...when my car started making the same sound it made about a week ago...the sound is made by some thing that is suppost to keep the braking pedals still....it's some "large disc thing" i think..anyway...my dad told me he fixed it...but although it started making the same sound this morning i'm really kind of sure that it's from the same thing.

anyway.i've taken some pictures of the new radio & the speakers in the trunk...they'll be uploaded soon...
