Broken Power Steering

Featured Replies

Jumped into the car about an hour ago and reversed out the drive, came to first corner to find the power steering didnt want to play (great !)

I somehow managed to get round some corners and bring it back home into the drive ( how I missed that gate post I dont know). Anyway it is showing all the signs of a faulty steering sensor and I just wanted to know how much these roughly cost as I will order one tomorow ?

I never knew the steering would have been as stiff as that, I did about a mile in total and when I get back my arms were aching

Thanks

When my car had the same problem ,it turned out to be the battery which was 6 years old needed replacing. The power steering is all electric ,and takes quite a large amount of current ,which the old battery was unable to supply.

I found if the car was restarted after about 2 minutes the power steering worked OK, because the alternator had put a charge into the battery.

Still wont work  After changing the steering angle sensor and checking the fluid, fuses etc it is still really stiff.

Does anybody know what else apart from the pump itself that can be doing this ?

Battery was re-newed about a month ago and the steering itself is not seized i.e track rod ends etc all in good order.

thanks
