Debating keeping the Fabia...

Featured Replies

the 5 cylinder in the Focus does sound very nice!

Golf GTI - possible

Megane - I'm not gay

BMW - I'm not a tiny little pixie, and such the doors are small, and the pedals are very close together!

Seriously the 1 series is not that much different in size to the Golf its 20ltrs smaller in the boot than the Golf but a massive 80lters bigger than the vRS. The front seats with sport seats in the 1 series are the best Ive ever sat in.

Im 6'2" and fit perfectly in the front and in the rear its fine a slight bit less than the Golf but were talking maybe an inch less legroom. Also if the rear legroom is a worry to you please think seriously how often do you use the rear seats for adults in the vRS? And how often will you in the future? Also Im sure your aware that the 1 series has much more legroom than th vRS (again though we are only talking inches)

Autocar rate the R26 as the best Hothatch there is its much faster than the Golf.

Yeah you're gonna have a tough job replacing the Fabia which is the ultimate heterosexual gentleman's car!

Most Megane's I see are driven by these new-fangled metrosexual types... which, lets face it, is a merely a halfway house on the road to coming out of the closet.

I love the pops and bangs that the ST makes...:D

You seem to be leaning towards anything VAG so that leaves...

Audi S3 or maybe a A3 s line with either the new 1.8T or the 2.0 TDi 170.

Golf R32.. no turbo but a nice vr6 lump. :)

I trust VAG (calm down at the back!). The ST is a superb car, but if I'm going to be spending the money I want to know that everything is going to be perfect for me. It's still on the list though lol

Was looking at S3's (would have to be the older one, albeit post face lift for my budget), and they seem good.

R32 would be nice, but the fuel bill would make me cringe!

To me, the 1-series feels very small inside, magnified by the small door openings. I carry passengers quite a lot (and they're all over 6 foot) so knowing that the person behind won't have their knees in my back is a good thing!

Clearly you need to test drive a 1 series, before I had a ride in one I had the view the press had put on me very small etc but once inside and in the back afterwards it was fine - the front was epecially good you can put the seats far lower than the VAGs Ive been in.

Nowt wrong with looking after yourself :)

Everything perfect... not a chance these days. Everything is built to a budget :(

I found the S3 a bit dull to drive as it didn't feel as alive or raw as cars like Scoobies/Evo's. Lots of kit though and stuck on aluminium if that floats your boat, so worth having a look though. :D

Perfect in what I want it to, it's not like I want it to carry 12 passengers, and still be able to park in motorbike spots! lol

I've heard that, too (I frequent Audi-Sport aswell).

Although there is a MASS of things available to make it better...

Well looking at the What Car? Reliability Test 2007 Ford finished 7th overall way ahead of anything VAG (the closest being VW in 15th) so I'm not so sure VAG deserve the reputation they've got for build quality.

Good luck in your hunt :D
