Coolant temperature sensor

Featured Replies

I suspect the coolant temperature sensor is on the way out, I recognise some of the symptoms mentioned in other threads. Could problems be caused by an airlock in the housing the sensor fits into?

I ask because the Haynes manual says to remove the sensor whilst refilling the cooling system until 'bubble free coolant runs' from the opening. I didn't do this last time I refilled the system and wonder whether this caused an air bubble under the sensor and could be the source of my problems. The temp gauge is fine it's engine pick up from cold that's the main problem. Or should I just buy a new one and be done with it?

Thanks.

The Fabia`s dont tend to suffer with the same problems as the Octavia

The Fabia ones are 2 pin Blue ones

Part number 06A 919 501 not a common fault

Check out other options if I was you

What engine do you have? If it's the 1.4 MPi, the sensor's at the highest point in the coolant circuit, so trapped air shouldn't be an issue. It is in different places on other engines, however, so if it's not at the top, you could produce an airlock, I suppose.

Did you replace the 'stat housing at the same time as well? I didn't do this when I produced my technical guide, although I've since had people recommend it should be done. A stuck thermostat should cause either persistent overheating, or make the engine take ages to get to temperatures, though, so the symptoms are slightly different...
