Got my self a new (old) Fabia :)

Featured Replies

Well, just before Christmas I picked up my brandnew fabia 1.4TDi bohemia.

So far I'm a very happy chappy. Haven't pushed him to too much yet but seems to have a lot more guts than my old MPI.

Anyway, this morning a noticed a sort of wirring noise when i clicked the key round to switch the glow plugs on. Haven't noticed this before, is it normal? Sounds like maybe a pump turning round or something, just lasts for a second or so.

Any thoughts what it might be?

Well, if anyone sees 'ZNG' round the somerset area, feel free to wave!

Ian

Did you old car have a tape player, and your new one a CD? I think the whirring is the CD head moving when the stereo switches on. The other 'pre-ignition' noise I can think of is the 'squirt' of the fuel system priming. This certainly happens on the 1.9 engines, so I presume it happens on the 1.4s too...?

Anyway, enjoy the car!

Yes, the 1.4 does that too.

Yep, the squirty type of noise is the fuel system pressurising, perfectly normal!

Thanks guys, must be the fuel system then, sounds like it's coming from under the rear seats. Just supprised I hadn't noticed it from the start.

Thanks again,

Ian

It doesn't always do it, it depends on the level of fuel in the tank.

That the sound is coming from under the rear seats it is virtually certain it is just the fuel pump pressurising the fuel system. Should last 1/2 to 1 sec. As Tom says, perfectly normal, and nothing to worry about. In fact, after a while you will worry if you don't hear it!

Mine did it too it was a 2001 1.4mpi if ur car is new i would go back to he dealer just to confirm
