Im blowing.............

Featured Replies

........... bulbs that is!!

Its getting annoying now, since buying the car a couple of years ago my brake light bulbs have been fine, however in the last month they both blew (middle one is fine), then i bought some new ones, which then blew again after 2 weeks! thinking these where faulty, i got some more, and now 1 of them have gone again.

Ive not had time to go to my local garage as im working away alot, but i thought i would ask you guys and see if anyone has any idea what would cause that?

Ive not done anything to the car / electrics so i haven't a clue

Cheers

Gav

You could have problems with the voltage regulator, which if left unchecked could lead to more severe problems like blown ECU's.

Failing that, it could be down to a dodgy earth causing excess resistance and current flow blowing the bulbs.

dont buy cheap bulbs when you replace them.

yeah they were cheap ones from Halfords... replacement were aswell. Any recommended bulbs i can try in the mean time before i get to the garage?

I would measure the power the bulb is receiving, had that on my old car and my fuse box ended melted... too much juice you see

i had this on my number plate bulbs constantly blowing every week. Now i use Osram bulbs in them and problem solved

My local Shell garage of all places, they sell the complete range of Osram bulbs.

Vauxhalls used to have a very bad reputation for this fault. It was caused by the bulbholders not being installed correctly in the lenses, leaving the bulbs fractionally loose, and vibrating.
