Engine over revs 1.6Fsi

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Help Help Help please anybody.

I have a 1.6 Fsi Octavia which is now 3 months old. From day 1 I have had the following problem which as yet the garage has not been able to solve.

I pull off in first gear, depress the clutch and change to second on depressing the clutch the engine revs increase sometimes as much as another 1,000 rpm before taking up drive again. This also happens from second to third but never from third to fourth or fourth to fifth. Sometimes this happens twice in a row then another time it does'nt happen for 20 or so pull offs.

Its a though i have not taken my foot off the accelerator whilst depressing the clutch.

The dealer has changed clutch and accelerator sensors and also the catalytic converter but the problem is still apparent.

Any ideas please as its took the edge of what would of been a nice car purchase.

PS...nothing shows up on the diagnostic test.

Thanks

Patches.

Maybe a stupid question, but has the dealer made the throttle body alignment? New Octavia has an electronic accelerator pedal so the TBA has to made everytime the battery has been disconnected for example.

Hi Downtime,

I have been back to the dealers this afternoon and had the throttle body aligned but as yet its too early to say if your suggestion has solved the problem as i travelled back from the dealers without having to go drop down into first or second gear.

Will keep you posted tomorrow once i get back to town driving.

Thanks.

Been out in the car today and sadly realignment has'nt solved the problem.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Keep pressing the dealer if you bought the car new. There has to be a solution to your problem. It sounds like the clutch is "sticking" but why it's doing that only on 1st and 2nd gear.

Well Skoda UK have washed there hands with it and closed the case, even though a Skoda technician was in the car yesterday when it happened twice. Its been reported back to Skoda UK that its my driving. Spoken to dealer principle today who fingers crossed is going to come up with a solution to the problem on Monday.

Yes i did buy the car from new. 1.6FSI Octavia Elegance with maxidot and steering wheel controls.

Skoda UK have washed their hands of it? Keep banging away at the dealer until its sorted. Simple.

Have a Chevy Lacitte (sp?) on loan for last 3 mths while waiting for my new car, and it does this alot, I find if I stop the car, remove the key and start up again it clears it about 50% of the time.

to me it feels like it is something in the cars ECU, as if it was a mechanical fault removing the key would have no effect at all.

It really is annoying - a few of my friends have even noticed as we drive along and had a go at my driving, "lift your foot off when you change gear" comments are now common. I have no advice on what you should do but I would get the skoda tec guy to drive the car, not just ride along with you, and keep at them till they come up with some sort of answer - there must be SOMETHING wrong

Best of luck with it mate

Did you have a new throttle motor? and did it solve the problem?. I have spoken to dealer and he says that a faulty throttle motor would show up on diagnostics. Many thanks for information anyway.

hi

dealer checked throttle motor and sensor and found that they are both working ok so they took engine mangement off and reset and reprogrammed ,seems ok at the moment

ECU has been replaced but still have the problem. Skoda UK dont want to know and dealer service dept has no idea what to do next. Garage owner is so elusive to discuss my problem its unbelievable & ive heard every excuse in the book to fob me off to delay proceedings.....

Why not contact What Car?

No harm in trying. You obviously have a problem with your 'new' car and as such, is covered by a 3 year warranty. If the dealer is clueless, that is not your concern.

Good luck.

Thanks for your advice re What Car . The Car is back in dealers AGAIN for another few days but they have no idea what to do with it apart from look at the it. I have been in touch with my legal advisors who say i should type a letter giving them 7 days from tomorrow to fix the problem if its still not repaired tell them you want a full refund so i can go elsewhere and purchase a different make and model.

This has been 4 months of hell. Worst motor experience ever for me.
