felicia poor idle

Featured Replies

Just been given a 97 felicia with 52000 on the clock. The previous owner tryed to get it fixed trying plugs, air filter and some mechcanic then fitted a crank sensor. This has not improved the idle the revs will drop then pick up again and sometimes cutting out all togeather and it does a bit of kangaroo jumping as well. Apart from that its a great car

If it's an MPi engine, their idle is a little lumpy anyway, but a faulty coolant temperature sensor can cause it to be even worse. I did a guide for the Fabia here, which should provide you with some pointers for your Felly. I should point out that current wisdom is that the thermostat body should be replaced at the same time (you can get the parts as a pack). It's not much harder or more expensive, but will kill two birds with one stone...

hi apOgee Thanks for your reply the previous ownner had a new thermostat fitted as well. The fault is worse when engine is warm

Throttle body needs cleaning? Or cracked/leaking hoses letting too much cold air into the engine?

Take a can of start spray and (with motor idling) spray (in turn) on all rubber hoses related to air intake/fuel injection. If the revs go up you have a leak.

Thanks i`ll try that

I agree with the above comment. My car was idling erratically with revs sticking and a chug chug feeling constantly. It turned out to be an air leak at the inlet manifold so i spent about £4 for two new gaskets (these were uprated) and it completely sorted it out. I must say though that spraying start spray did not initially flag this up but on removal of the inlet manifold the gasket (or what was left of it) was completely shot.

Bear in mind that they do get a bit noisy when they hit 50,000 miles or so which is the timing chain so it should run smoother but will not necessarily cure noisiness.
