Xbox 360 Wi-FI/Online questions

Featured Replies

Not for me as such as I ain't got one

But one of the local kids mothers asked me today about setting it for online play

I don't know a great deal about them, she claims she has to buy an adaptor for wireless connection to her router, is this true as I thought they were Wireless as standard. And I thought you need some sort of account for Livebox yes/no????

Can anyone confirm these facts us so I can point her in the right direction to get it set up for her lad

Wireless is done via an adaptor, but wired is standard...

(The Wii is the other way round, you have to buy an adaptor to get a wired connection).

And I thought you need some sort of account for Livebox yes/no????

You get a "free" Xbox Live silver account by owning a 360 (over a traditional Xbox), so you just connect and sign up for it - the gold subscription is just a different grade for which you have to pay...

Rob.

Would it be one these then

Looking at the spec on one just now and it says wi-fi ready which means you need one these then:rolleyes:

That's the one...you can get a lot of CAT5 cable for £60 though! Or, IIRC, you can get a router which supports Wireless Distribution for about £40-£50...if the existing router they have supports WDS then they could get one of these and connect it to the back of the Xbox using CAT5, they can then connect this router wirelessly to the existing router. Works out slightly cheaper but probably more hassle. Bit of a tangent... :)

How much is the Gold subscription and whats the benefit of it ???

Depends on how you buy it and how long you suscribe for...it's about a fiver a month to subscribe monthly, but if you get a year's subscription from the right place it's about £40.

Benefits...you can play games online and access certain XBox Live content sooner than the silver members. There might be some others, Xbox website would probably have a more comprehensive breakdown...

Thanks again Rob that just about clears that one up for us I shall tell her my findings later

off course if you are going to play online, you have to bear in mind Wireless is a little slower than wired and slightly more tricky to set up... :roll
