A big hello and a tale of wow!!!

Featured Replies

Hello to everybody on the forum. This is my first post and I thought I would tell you all a little story of wow!!!!

Firstly, however, I should say that I have owed my silver vRS for about 18 months and absolutely love it - it is a great car - standard at the moment, but after reading many of the interesting posts on here, there is a bit of a shopping list growing! Probably starting with an exhaust (the car is overly quiet I feel - for a sporty little number any way) - Blue Flame or Miltek????? That seems to the question!!!!! Plenty of info on here about the subject - I'll keep reading.:)

Any way - on to the tale of wow!!!! Readers of RS's take note......

On the way to my mum and dads the other night I ran over a house brick which was in the middle of the road. The cars in front drove over it with ease but it got stuck under my car. It rattled its way out after 20m or so and I thought there goes the front spoiler!!! The car felt ok so I comtiued and finished my journey, and eventually saw that the spoiler was ok. After my visit, I started the car to a noisey engine and oil light on the dash!!! I looked under the car with a tourch and saw oil dripping from the engine!!!!! One split sump!!!! From a house brick!!!!! Boo hoo.:(

A call to the Skoda garage (Bradford - always good service) put my mind at ease and my wallet, to a certain extent, breathed a sigh of relief!!! I thought I had writen the car off!!! but it looks like about £200 - fingers crossed.

However, a call to the AA, to relay the car to the garage, was not so successful!!! They say I have been involved in a RTA (because I have hit a brick) and won't relay me!!!! What a waste of time. All these years I've been paying the AA and I can't remembere the last time I called them!!! So I don't know - might have to tow it - we'll see.

So that is it - I'll keep you all posted on the out come and please, please, please be careful of any debris in the road.

Thanks for reading - a bit of a long one I know!!!

John

Welcome

How can the say RTA for that

If it was me I would be writing a nasty letter to the head office :thumbdwn:

Hope your car is sorted soon though!

welcome to briskoda.

Hitting a brick is classed as an RTA!? :thumbdwn:

Rubbish!

Welcome to Briskoda though!

Blue Flame or Miltek?????

Welcome to the site:thumbup:

Have a full Miltek system on my Vrs:D:D What a tone it gives off @ full tilt and removed some of the low down lag.

Hello and Welcome.

Sorry to hear your tale of woe, the AA sound like a right shower of bricks!

Welcome :)

I can't believe they call that a RTA, pillocks!!!

Thanks for the support. I may have to reassess my membership with the AA. When you drive a car a reliable as an Octavia, ir seems a bit excesive any way. And a Miltek exhaust you say Fatlad? We will ahve to see!!!

Ta

i work for the r.a.c so you no what im going to tell you.

sory to hear about ur misshap welcome to the forum

What a load of Balderdash, I totalled a 2cv many years ago and the AA came and towed that, mind you that was before they sold out. :(

Hiya.

Can I recommend Britannia Rescue, particularly if you or your spouse are, or have ever been, employed by any part of the Civil Service, including organisations such as BT (basically anyone that was privatised)?

That sounds good (Britannia). I used to work for DEFRA. I will look into it. There are 6 people in my immeadiate family who are in the AA and it looks like we are all going to start looking for alternatives.

James - B, are you saying the RAC would have collectd me or wouldn't have collected me?

Thanks for all the suggestions

John

Welcome

Welcome to Briskoda

I know for a fact Britannia would have collected you (been there done that etc), and work out cheaper than anyone else for the same cover once you qualify for Civil Service Motoring Association membership, and having worked for DEFRA you do.

Thanks again, Britannia seem to be the way forward.

Just to let everybody know, the damage sustained by hitting the brick was not too bad I suppose. It was just a puntured sump. The vRS is now back on the road and doesn't seem too upset by it's ordeal!!!

Just goes to show though. I think I will always stop now and moves bricks off the road, if I see them, rather than just driving around them/over them.
