My local tyre dealer has recommended Kumho 712s for my Octavia vRS. I'm currently running Toyos Proxes T-1S (225/45/17), the only problem I have is that they are quite noisy and they don't last as long as I'd like. The Kumho 712 is apparently a "high performance directional tyre", has anybody tried them ? I'm being quoted

I'm running them in 225/50/16 on my Leon (only for the last 1000miles though). :)

Seem pretty bl00dy good in the dry, and above average in the wet (without being blindingly good).

Most folks speak highly of them. Wear rates are apparently excellent too (one of my reasons for going for them) ~ the opposite always being the comment for the T1-S.

Quoting another SeatCupra.Net member ~ "A lot of people in sprint classes that have to run road tyres use the Khumo 712 as it has quite stiff sidewalls - and a chap in a lotus elise put a blinding lap of curborough in last year so they cannot be that bad".

I think Nick (ncarring) has the Kumho's on his and he rates them pretty good. And having been a passenger in his car at the RPM I'd agree :D

I've got some Kumhos on my 18" rims and I'm fairly impressed, wet traction is OK, but their really quite good in the dry. Last a good while - about 13K miles on them and, fair enough I've drastically reduced their life after Brunters, but should be good for another 5K.

(I heard Martin Brundle on F1 commentary yesterday say he gets no where near 12000 miles out of his road tyres when his co-commenator compared the 60 miles life in an F1 car to 12000 miles for a normal road car tyre!)

I think Mr Brundle might be able to afford P-Zero Corsa's every few weeks...however I estiamte 8-15k for a set of "good" tyres if driven well. Beyond that for the hard as nails and not driven so hard compounds.

Of course it might be all this sure grip that appearing every where now.

I got far more miles from P6000's than any other tyre.

That said the P-Zero Assemtrico's I presently have look very good after 5k and 2 track days and a fair bit of suregrip abuse :D

Have to love the welsh for putting thsi stuff down on big open sweepers :D

re the Khumo, they sponsor a rally...maybe they are the next excellent brand...found the Toyo's to be good on the 4x4 but horrible on the RS....swings and roundabouts.

ps. *egg suck Granny teaching disclaimer* Directionals will loose grip before asemetric pattern's but will feel better on turn in.

I'm on conti-sportcontact2's, run about 15000 miles, and only 1/2 worn :)

kumho have an ever growing reputation in competition tyres..

and i believe Jon (TaviaRS) know of a good outlet for them.....

I do indeed have 712s on my Octy. As Q remarked they perform quite well in the dry. They've now done the RPM tour, the trackday and about 9000 miles total and the tread depths are on 5.0mm front, 6.0mm rear as measured at the 70k service a week ago. Seems good value to me for

Yeah, I think I'll give them a try then, apparently a lot of the lads at Knockhill are using them. TBH I didn't think my Dunlop SP Sport 3000 or my Toyos T1-S were particularly good for grip in the wet anyway.

P6000's - excellent durability but not really suitable for "performance" cars, are they ? I have heard that some dealers take OE tyres off new cars and replace them with P6000s 'cos they can get them so cheap.

BTW my tyre man does not recommend assymetrical tyres for high performance turbocharged cars, he says he would always go for directional instead, they're better able to cope with the abuse ! :D I know people won't agree with that statement but it's not my opinion .....
