Forge SPLT-R (Spliter)

Featured Replies

Hi,

Does anybody have any experience of these dump valves (Forge SPLT-R) on a standard Octavia vRS? There doesn't seem to be too much on the forum about them. I get the idea how they work but do they work, ie no engine lights, problems with running of engine, etc? just looking for a more of a psst noise etc rather than increased performance, or a valve which has to deal with an inreased peformance engine.

Use my car for work, therefore, needs to stay ultra reliable - I suppose then that that is an argument for leaving well allone!!!!!

Whilst I'm on, and I know it has been covered 100's of times before, the issue of stainless steel exhausts. Again, is a CAT back system likely to effect a standard car? Seems that most threads are more cocerned with re-mapped cars.

Any input will be much appriciated

Thanks

John

A cat back system will be fine.

The only issue is that SOMETIMES a sports cat may cause the engine management light to come on, of if the car is completely decatted.

A split-r will be fine. It still puts some air back into the inlet system.

My blue flame did give a slight increase in both torque and bhp,as well a throaty roar :)

Edit. mine is turbo back. I would imagine a cat back would give a little bit extra but the cat will be restricting alot of the air flow

...I have the SPLT-R on mine that I bought from Awesome-GTI. It isnt too loud, fits nicely and doesnt cause any problems. Install and setup instructions are good too.

You'll need to set the spring tension up when you first install it, easiest way is to leave the cover off the engine, and go for a drive, mine needed turning clockwise (to tension the spring I think) to get it to hold without leaking boost. It takes a while, but does need to be done unfortunately.

Im a bit of a biff when it comes to mechanical things, so my mechanic friend did most of it for me, however, a boost gauge will probably help, and if you have a private area where you can do a flat out run in 4th or 5th, then it should be super easy!

We did out of curiosity put mine to fully atmospheric, and it was loud, but it only took about 1 minute for the ecu to drop the boost and put the car into limp home mode... Mine (as far as I know) is completely standard apart from this valve....

In my opinion, if you want the noise, either get one of these, or as others will recommend, a CAI (i think to be honest the noise will probably be the same between the pair of them!), just dont expect the 'whizz-pop-piston-bounce-noise' of a cosworth or evo running 30psi of boost!

Oh, and except the random question like "Why does your car sneeze?" every now and again!

Cheers

Rob

There's a forge split-r for sale in the classifieds section :D

all ok then

For what it's worth, I found the recommended starting point for setup suited my car perfectly (wind it all the way in, then two complete turns back out IIRC).

Thanks for all the suggestions. If I were to get it fitted by a profesional, eg Awsome GTi, would that solve all the issues of set up and such like?

Yes it would.

I bought my forge 007 DV and Carbonio CAI from Awesome GTi and had them fit them. They are easy enough to fit though.

I had mine for the noises, I think the CAI helps with the Pssssst noise (Sneeze).
