Warranty questions

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Just a quick question about the best way to go about claiming for things under warranty on my 55reg vrs. About 3 months ago my passenger wiper arm snapped in 2 while folding it back down after washing the car, hardly any force was used at all so i thought that would be a warranty item because its not really wear and tear, but was told it wasnt so had to buy a new wiper arm. Last time i sent my dad in because i thought it might look better coming from him than me ( 19 year old. ) Well i now have the seat fraying problem on my passener seat and the sticker on the top of the gearstick has bubbled. There just minor things, but thats what warranty is for surely? Should things like that be covered, ive seen the seat fraying sticky at the top so surely i have an argument about this but wondered about the gearstick one. Does the car been modified ( externally ) affect the warranty on items like the seats? Could see them saying they wouldnt replace a strut under warranty with it being lowered, but surely that doesnt affect the seat?

Cheers for any replies, Euan

well the warranty thing says that wiper blades carry no warranty due to their operation, but doesnt talk about the arms, so thats a mystery

the seats and their coverings have no warranty after 6 months due to the wear and tear issue. unsure about the gearstick, but i woudl imagine they would put that under the same braket as the seats.

they say that sometimes the cars are subjected to modifications by their owners. When they look at a Warranty claim, it must be carefully ascertained whether, from the technical viewpoint, a

connection exists between the modification and the damage. For example, a claim regarding the paintwork cannot be rejected because the vehicle concerned has been fitted with a more powerful engine. so no they shoudlnt be able to get out of any genuine claim as long as the springs arent deemed to have had a factor in the problem.

best thing is to approach your dealer and see what they can do and just play it by ear

Cheers mate, answered all my questions. Didnt realise the fuzzy seat only had a 6 month warranty, slightly annoying, looks like i will have to save up for a retrim at some point then, or use one of the tips i read in the sticky about shaving them off .

The wiper arm was a weird one, just broke clean off, they said it was wear and tear,

phoned skoda uk but they agreed!

The gearstick could be deemed wear and tear but i might give them a phone even and see what they say, if they say to bring it down then i could give it a try. Cheers anyway, Euan

Sorry to hear your having problems there.

I know there has been problems in the past with fraying seats, but no-one ever got a solution.

Mine are frayed, and it doesnt really bother me, the car is over 3 years old now so its expected but still i can see how on a 55 reg it could be rather annoying

Hows them springs? they still riding ok?

John

the problem with the gearsticks is if the driver wears jewelery, then that can effect the top of the stick. so its a difficult one.

cant you get a de-bobble thing? might help "shave" it off? other wise its a good oppuntuity for a nice leather retrim :D

Yea cheers mate the springs are excellent, all i need now is an antirollbar i think! Car rides fine, i dont think its much, if any different from standard, my dad drove it and says he thinks its way firmer but hes just being awkward because im modifying it

The seats dont bug me that much, was just after reading the thread i though it might be worth a shot, theres a mark on the side of one of the bolsters so would have been handy to get rid of that at the same time, looks like its time to save for leather ;)

The gearsticks annoying, its like an air bubble, might get the hairdryer into it and see if i can get it out! If not al have a look on ebay for one or something like that, all daft wee things really.

Cheers, Euan

If it's obviously a manufacturing fault rather than something that could be argued as your fault (wear) then they'd replace it. So if it looks like an air bubble then take it to them, as normal use wouldn't cause such a bubble?
