One For The DSG's

Featured Replies

Mine's done 66k & I have warranty with warranty direct. Sounds like it may be necessary!

Mike

1.9 TDI DSG Estate. I love the DSG, I have been driving for 33 years and its the best gear box I have ever used.

I have never driven any other Tip box.

I have just completed 3500 miles and I am getting just short of 41 MPG. I work out my MPG by replacing the fuel and using a calculator. My on board computer reports 44 MPG.

I would guess my MPG will get better as the car covers more miles.

My driving style is progressive :D

Its Tommy 2 tums good

Done 10k now and my view is the same. No regrets in getting a DSG at all:P

Only a month in but loving mine, agree with the comments on the wrong gear "issue" but having driven Merc C & E class traditional autos I have to say the DSG is miles better

Has anyone compared it with BMW's SMG ? That really is a good 'box. There's nothing wrong with DSG, I love it, but the SMG is something else altogether.

I've now done 10k in the last 5 months in mine, car has now done 72k. It's brill. only problem with it is hill start (the rolling backwards a foot ish thingy), the very low speed not sure which gear to be in (like any auto box), unresponsive when very cold (freezing- again like any auto - oil thick - but car is due a service in 2k), and moving off can be a little jerky, but could also be the 2.0 pd tdi engine.

I have driven the BMW SMG in a M3, I do not think it is as smooth as DSG, granted, it was a 2004 M3 and I know back then it was only a single clutch automated manual gearchange, I am not sure what the more up to date versions are like...............anyway back to the DSG............I have 210,000kms on my 2006 2.0tdi (remapped from new) and it hasn't missed a beat !!

that is very encouraging!

This is why the paddles are a lot better, you dont need to flip into manual mode, touch one of the paddles and it will atuomatically go into manual mode and you can play, leave it for a while and it goes back.

And the reason the DSG is sooo much better than an auto is.......

Its a manual gearbox.

............. pity Skoda do not offer the Flappy Paddles you can get on the Audi ....................

MY2009 Octavias with DSG are now available with 'paddle shift' included with the multi-function steering wheel option. :D:thumbup:

Does the Launch control feature work with all DSG cars. Iv'e seen videos on youtube of purring it into S, ASR off and holding the brake but as soon as mine hits just over 1krpm it tries to take off, does it only work on petrol DSG's?

Also has anyone noticed that if in park the rev limiter on the TDI is 5,000RPM and if in neautral it bounces at 4,500RPM?

Got a 19TDI DSG by the way

i am not sure in UK but in Luxembourg where i live the launch control is sold as an extra option...

With launch control it would be faster accelerating than the manual:)

I've driven 2 Octavias and 2 Superbs with the tourque autobox and 2 Octavias with the DSG for a total of 400k miles between them and and the DSG wins hands down in almost every department - flexibility, speed, power and economy. The autobox is a tad smoother from rest or at v. low speed when you suddenly jump on the gas, but I'd have the DSG every time.

Can't comment on reliability as Skodas don't go wrong do they (?) but my last DSG was on 100k miles and still performing as new......

It's interesting driving them in snow.......going down a 1 in 4 in 1st, every now and then it would slide then grip again and lock the wheels up as the clutch kicks in (or out, whichever!). In fact driving them in the snow/slippery conditions highlights its major weakness. The not so smooth take off. I was ok going up a steep hill, until the cars in front of me stopped. I had to. next....no traction. managed to turn the car around and go the long way round. The things we do in the name of 'Dads Taxi's!!'

I've had problems with my DSG from day one but the problems have been small untill yesterday. Previously my biggest complaint has been that when the car is in D6 and going slow behind another car the engine feels week and with an attempt to kick down there is a noticeable delay. Yesterday the gearbox locked itself in what I would guess would be D2 (3000RPM and max speed 25Km/hr). No reverse at all. In the instrument panal no D gear could be seen. Stoped the car, restarted it and it worked fine again! How many others have had this problem?

Carter - I'd take it for a checkover. Any problems with gear selection could be down to a faulty mechatronic unit.

My A3 had one as it was very jerky in first gear, a friend with a TT had a new unit at 44,000miles after the car wouldn't go out of 2nd.

A 6th to 5th kickdown shouldn't show much of a delay. If you floor the accelerator there is a microswich under the aceelerator which will kick down two gears.
