Funny smell...

Featured Replies

There be a funny smell in my boot.

Sort of smells like damp, but there is no dampness in the boot and the rear screen washing pipe is attached.

Also checked for dead animals (sounds odd, but it happened to SWMBO after birds nested in the wheelarch).

Any ideas before it goes to the auto electrician tomorrow?? (for unrelated work, but if the seats are out and it's around that area I'll sort it then).

Thanks in advance (hopefully).

Have you checked your carpets for dampness ?

There's a well known door leak problem. See link

For a while this produced a "Tom cat" type smell in the cabin - this is the gas output of bacteria growing in mold in wet carpets/sound insulation.

It may be a combination of old spills, condensation mould etc. Whatever the original cause (which needs fixing of course), it is usually safe to give things a clean with bicarbonate of soda. This neutralises any volatile acids (as in vomit/milk) but is not aggressive as it buffers.
