New Turbo.......

Featured Replies

Hi All

After commenting that my car making strange noise under acceleration, it appears i need a new Turbo on my Mk1 vRS which i have only had 6 months.

Thankfully, i have a few months left on the vehicle warranty, so wont cost me anything.

(at last i can justify paying that bit extra for the newer car!):)

Guess i am just looking to see what i should be wary of, having had a new turbo put in the car?

Also, out of curiosity, how much would this have cost if my warranty had expired?!

Cheers

Well my turbo alone came in at £521.47+vat and fitting.I don't know how much fitting was as the the previous owner had a little more work done at the same time .

The turbo is an exchange item meaning you get a new one and they recycle the old one.

NEW TURBO, SCARY STUFF.

HOW OLDS UR CAR/MILES ?

I WOULD CHANGE MY OIL UNLESS THAT GETS DONE WITH TURBO,

AND AS LONG AS YOU TAKE IT EASY FOR A GOOD FEW MILES YOU SHOULD BE OK. JUST REMEMBER TO WARM UP AND COOL DOWN, IF YOU DONT ALL READY.

I WOULD IMAGINE COST WOULD BE AROUND £1000

WITH FITTING NOT SURE, JUST HOPE I DONT HAVE TO PAY IT, THANK GOD FOR YOUR WARRANTY.

ahh they don't look hard to fit, just have fun and don't worry about it.

I bought it with 19k on it,m added 5k so far.

Always warmed up and let it cool down, so assume previous owner booted it heck of a lot!!

am bit wary that it went after 25k, but sure just paranoia!!

That does seem early for a turbo. Turbo Oil pickup pipes can become blocked and starve the turbo of oil, just keep it well serviced.

Ive seen brand new k03 and K04's on ebay for 200 quid . do a good search before getting ripped off. garages love ppl needing turbo replacements

Are you sure it's not a split hose?

If it is the turbo it will be the perfect time to upgrade to a bigger one :)

i agree a hose certainly costs less to replace lol. worth a check over at a garage

If the garage wants to replace the turbo under warranty, i say let em :D

agreed! apparently it was a loose bearing, so they replaced the whole thing!

thank goodness for warranties!

doesnt seem typical of anything more serious, hopefully just an isolated mishap!!

my turbo blew (32k) on fabia vrs recently (see other thread)

must be something about glasgow!

dealer said close to £1800 dealer fitted price - eek

was also in warranty just a few months...

Hi can i just ask what was the noise your car made. What did it sound like? I have a vrs that sounds noisy. Kinda like air traveling though a metal pipe/soft grinding. Have also noticed that the dump valve sound noticably louder too. I'm praying to God that it's a split pipe. Just spent £400 on tyres and the cars 3 months out of warranty.

did not sound like that to be honest, was a very metallic whirring noise when the turbo picked up, and on start up.

stopped when didnt accelerate etc.

turned out it was not the turbo but a blown manifold gasket

see a thread "Not a new turbo...." posted a few days a go giving an update.

mine was under warranty but repairing the gasket cos them about a fiver according to copy of work done i insisted on getting a copy of.

fingers crossed for you!
