Quickie - If you were buying...

Featured Replies

...say, a Fabia VRS, maybe a black 53 plate one... would you prefer to buy one that has had the timing belt and service done or one that was priced to reflect that work needing to be done?

Morning by the way! ...and good night!

Cheers, Foureyes.

Personally I wouldn't touch it unless the work had already been done and documented, as it is overdue. Night Night.

Don't think I'd make the purchasing decision just on this issue alone. Would be in combination with other factors - overall condition, documentation etc.

Might not be overdue either depending on exact age and mileage. Despite a fair bit of confusion over intervals, I would stick to a 4yr/60k rule. So if it's done less than 60, it could have been registered on 28/02/04 on a 53-plate :P

I would buy the car fully serviced and had the belt done.

When I bought mine it was serviced before I picked it up, the belt did not need replaced at the time.

Depends if it's "dealer" priced to change, or independent garage priced to change. If they've priced it to reflect a main dealer change, then buy that one and take it to an independent garage who will charge half the price to do the same work. Quids in :D

Chris

Buy whichever looks and is the best car

Personally i would prefer the price to be low enough to enable me to get the belt, water pump, tensioner etc all done by a known mechanic, so i knew they had all been done (& correctly).

Me too! you will know its been done and done by who! mine was in dealers today and the said the vrs is 4 years or 80k wichever is sooner! so its overdue!

it's 60k /\

it's 60k /\

It dont surprise me that skoda were wrong! i thought 60k but they said 80k:confused:

SUK Customer Services told me 4yr/80k too. But seeing as the interval is 4yr/60k on other VAG vehicles using the same PD130 unit, like my previous Ibiza Sport, I'd go with the lower figure :)

Thanks for the opinions!

Its actually slightly over on both accounts! It was 4 yrs old at the beginning of Dec. Out of interest and mentioned on another thread - Skoda told me the belt was 80K... :)

...but I'm going with the 60K (ish!) rule.

Had a decent quote for the belt/pump change today though. By a guy that my circle of friends have used for multiple MOT's and where the g/f got her 306 belt changed. He's just done the 130PD in a Golf too inc pump which is nice to know.

I was going to go down the 'let someone organise their own work' route but then if its done I guess it should appeal more to the people that wouldn't necessarily frequent these forums.

So; done cupra bushes, got to seal rear doors, get belt done, have a valet and then its time to move on!

Its sad, but we don't need two cars now... sniff...

Oh right - it's you selling :)

As a seller, I think it would make sense to have it done before sale. Less issues for people to grumble over, and perhaps not decide to buy your car.

I'll tell you a good idea - join Freedom then you can sell your lovely Fabia on here

Steve

I would only buy if the work was done beforehand :)
