Need the variable service carried out , dont need the cost of a main dealer , has any one Good or Bad experience of Nationwide Autocentres , 1 near me at present and a good deal on price plus discount . Thanks

Like everything, it all depends on whihc mechanic does the job.

I used to run one near me  tend to tell you everything that is "wrong" with the car:confused: sometimes thats a good thing, best to over sell than under sell in my opinion....If you know of other people giving it a glowing ref; then go for it

I have only used them once (in Dumfries) They had a special offer on for discounted MOT's for AA members.

They failed my car on dip beam being too low and emissions.

The engine temp wasn't hot enough and according to a guy I know works for VOSA (vehicle inspector) the fact that the average of 4(I think?) measurements of emissions came in below the limit it should have passed.

I needed the car the next day to go to the airport so had the corrective work done. A bottle of their expensive fuel additive was added and I only did around 20 miles before the car passed.

The manager there was in no way helpful and I thought the companies practices in general were questionable/shoddy.

My advice for what it's worth is to try and find an independant local garage to you with a good reputation and build up a good relationship as a customer with them. You'll find that when you need your car fixed quickly to suit you this will pay dividends.

I get oil changed there, they seem fine and its good oil for the price. It certainly saves me getting on me back.

They did overfill by 5mm last time though

Wish i had read your message first , guess what , all else is fine , but they have overfilled by 5 to 7 mm , i rang and they were not even certain what oil , other than it must be the right stuff, but if i go baqck they will drop the plug and empty some out , oh and also said have i measured the level when engine Hot as thats the best way because them some will be in the Filter . and level may be ok . I think not !!! as no one has ever advised that before . They have agreed to empty the lot and refill if i tell them to do it , oh and of course i will then have to tell them to put a new filter in ., plus a new plug . Or am i being over cautious .

Well i left my 5mm overfill in and its been fine.

The god of all things vag- Lummox, on this forum told me it would be fine.

Quick update , Took the car back to Nationwide this morning , and they did a new oil change , with the correcy oil , although they assured me that the correct oil was used originally but that it was overfilled . No problems with them and service was quick and all done , so i am now happy knowing 100% its the right oil and level , thanks all for your inputs though .

At the price of £185 for all of the work 80k service which included , change Brake fluid and coolant plus normal service bits , i thought this was a very good price . You get 15% off if you have a Tesco or AA card .

Did they use vag coolant because this has very good corrosion inhibitors and should be used if possible.Colour is lilac (G12+) or orange/pink (G12) iirc.

Yes its orange pink coolant , checked that the same day . At least i now know i had a oil clean out and new lot fitted so 2 changes in 500 miles , should be good .
