Problems With The Car

Featured Replies

Had to take the dog to the vets this afternoon I got him out of the door and walked about 5 car lengths and I could not remember if I had locked the doors or not so I pressed the button to unlock the car and then locked the car with the other button. Got back to the car unlocked the car with no problem turned the key and no lights came on the dash and the clock went back to 0.00 and so did the trip computer, I got out of the car and locked the car but the alarm went off it took me about 10 secs to turn it off. Got back in the car no interior lights worked nor did the windows/radio, so at 3.35pm I phoned Skoda assist. While waiting i kept trying to start the engine ,try the windows, radio and even the hazard light button but that did not work plus the door locking buttons did not work. Every time I tried something the locking system beind the doors were clicking. Got a call at 5.20 from Skoda saying the van will be with me at 6.10, at 5.45 the radio came on and 5 mins after that I managed to get the car started. What was the cause? maybe the rain got into the car?????.

Sounds like it got a bit confused! I'd take it into the dealers for a checkover. As you mentioned Skoda Assist I presume it's still under warranty?

Just gone out to check the car and the problem has returned, will phone skoda again , yes it's under 12 months warranty.

check your battery terminals making sure there both nice n tight.

Indeed. Something's clearly caused power to be lost, albeit momentarily perhaps. Otherwise the clock would have been fine.

With the loss of the clock I thought about the battery leads but they seem ok.

My brother and I have just pushed the car back a few yards so the mechanic can work on the car properly and it started up ok. We have checked the battery again and they seem ok, could it be the starter motor?.

there will be something loose in the electrics , can't see it being the starter though , check all the fuses and relays are fully located in their slots

The RAC has just been and could not find a fault ( the car was still starting up) he checked the battery power and he was ok and he said he doubt it was the rain. He said it could be something wrong with the key?. Better go to the dealer in the morning.

Could not start the car this morning again so I had to get jump leads to start the car. Got to the dealers and only one mechanic was on duty and the dealer had no courtesy car so they had to contact Skoda for a loan car. Told it will be an hour but 2 hours later still waiting for it to turn up then was told the car would go to my house so got home and still no car has turned up.

I think you need to find an alternative dealer mate :thumbdwn:

Only good thing to come out of this morning was free hot chocolate and a glimpse of the new Fabia Estate. Just phoned the dealer and they are looking into it.

The problem was the starter motor. How much would this have cost me?.

Depends....

If it's the good old solenoid switch or the contacts/cables, a bit of time removing and cleaning and re-assembling.

If it's one of the coils or the commutator, erm... probably better off getting a recon or new starter.

Can you tell I owned several Vauxhalls in the 1980s?
