Blimey, never ever thought I would write a car review, so sorry if it is a bit basic.

Hired a Yaris for the last two days. Brand new just 3 days old, 100 miles on clock.

There is tons of room inside this little car with my neice saying she had bags of legroom in the back (Though I'm quite short).

The engine is very quiet and refined producing a little short of 90bhp. Which for a total non petrol head here, is amazing for just a 1.4. You do need to get the revs up a little before pulling away or else she is liable to stall, but other then that it went like a ruddy rocket. Loads of torque in the lower gears and easily over took other cars on a short dual carriage way.

The gear change is very smooth and easy, and all the ***** and controls have a positive feel to them. The display is excellent, being a sort of holographic lcd display built into the centre of the dash. Aircon, Cd player, e/w etc are all standard.

The ride is very smooth and quiet.

The boot is very small - understandably, and there was a rather tinny sort of noise from stones hitting inside the wheel arches when going along country roads, other than that I really couldn't fault it.

One mior point, and this may be common on newer cars for all I know, is that to start it you have to depress the clutch. (why???)

If I was in the market for a small car I would not hesitate to seriously consider one -especially with an mpg of 61!

I replaced my Fabia vRS with one 9 months ago, have it mapped to 120bhp and weighing only 1.1 tonne its superb, only got 42mpg from the Fabia and average 58 in the Yaris.

You can have passenger room or boot room but not both thanks to the sliding reclining rear seats. It's standard suspension is way better than a standard Fabia.

Your right about the stones though, the rear arches only have a partial liner and there is a large exposed area which is just like a drum when stones hit it.

The only other thing s I don't like are no speed adjust on the intermittent wipe and no 3 flash on the indicators.

I find it a lot more comfortable in the Yaris and the leathers better.

The best thing is that it can tow not like the Fabia

They seem a *tad* expensive, but yes, quite under-rated.

Even my Corsa 1.3CDTI was bloody nippy at 75bhp.

I looked at the 1.8 petrol "warm hatch" one, when I bought the fiat, and I liked it, but it was way too expensive in comparison.....

in my trade you get to learn what cars are reliable, and what are not, and no-one ever says a bad word about the yaris... seems pretty indestructable!

and like someone else said, the diesel remapped to 120bhp! wow, what a sleeper, bet thats a world of fun!

It's a lot of fun with some dragons mixed in with the horses

Friend has a Yaris T-sport and my god does it go some.

My mum has the 1.3 "SR" - yes they are very overpriced.. hers cost 12.5k :eek:

but it does have keyless entry, parking sensors and all that jazz.

She does wish she got the 1.8 now though because she says its not great on the motorway
