how do you secure video camera in your car?

Featured Replies

I am after holder/solution how to fix video camera so that I can record stuff whilst driving around. Using "video camera holder" didn't bring anything in Briskoda search. In Google I can find some holders, starting from about £60.

Depends on budget - the suction ones are excellent and very strong, but cost a bit more than a fixed mount style one which attaches to the driver's/passenger's head restraint which can be DIY'd for around £20, the bulk of the cost being the camera adapter.

I have something kindly donated to me by BryanD. Consists of a bit of wood with a curled bit which goes over the passenger seat. This has 2 holes in it which the headrest goes through. Then there are two ringhooks under it with a couple of bungees which attach to the bottom of the seat and keep it steady. There's a screw fitting on the sticky out bit which the camera attaches too. This is very cheap. You can turn the camera left and right, but to tilt the angle involves tilting the whole seat. :D Works for me though.

For a short video I took the other day I just used some strong double sided foam tape. Similar to what can hold license plates on. Then just stuck it to the middle of the dash. This would depend how heavy/expensive the camera is. Very cheep solution.

The majority of my CZ video car footage was filmed with a digital camera on a small adjustable plastic tripod secured to the dash with three large lumps of blu tac.

Including the cost of the tripod it set me back about £7

we use one of them soft rectangle foam thinks, the ones for wiping the mist off your windscreen.

put the cam on top of it, then ducktape it all down to the dash.

we used it on our mountain bike trip to wales. mixing the footage in at the start and end of the riding clips. made some mad films.

This is my mount, modelled on a spare headrest I seem to have lying about. :D
