Brakes Front and Rear

Featured Replies

Age old question I know, but I am beginning to think I need some new brakes on the vRS as I get a bit of travel in the pedal, and when I step on the brake, it doesnt lose speed too quickly, which has caused some fairly "twitchy" moments in the trouser dept!!:rofl:

Now, are these a good deal, and are they correct?!

Front:

SKODA FABIA 1.9 VRS MINTEX FRONT BRAKE DISCS & PADS 03- on eBay, also, Skoda, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 01-Feb-08 12:11:43 GMT)

Rear:

SKODA Fabia 1.9 VRS MDK0037

Or do you know of anywhere else for some good brakes for a standard set-up?

It might not be the pads causing the long pedal travel , you could have air in the hydraulic system , this needs bleeding out

also another thing that causes a long pedal is play in a wheel bearing , this causes pad knock off , hence extra pedal travel to get the pads to grip the disc

you can't go wrong with the Mintex pads on the front , but anything uprated for the rear will be wasted as the rear brakes basically do nothing, just get a set of standard pads

Ill second that.

any brake wear problems will be a normal wear and tear item , so wont be under warranty ,but if there is a fault with a bearing this should be covered

How much should it cost to get my brake fluid checked?!

a fluid change should be done every 2 years as per Skoda service schedules , cost between £35 and £50 , depending on how much the dealer wants to rip people off

Ill have to get a tech at work to check the bearings out on mine then as ive just done brakes on mine, and there as crap as they were.

It had a BFC 12k ago....

they probably still need bedding in properly , did you do pads and discs or just pads ?

The full job lot front and rear.

Ive done 900 miles since i fitted them...do about 100 miles a day..

Ill get them to have a scan..

car is booked to have all brakes checked and fluid changed.

Costing £42.50, which isnt bad for peace of mind imo. 60k service due in 4.5k, but I cant drive with no real brake feeling for that long!!

Depending on what the garage say, methinks I will get some Mintex for the front and some standards for the rear. Discs and pads :D

Sounds like a fluid change or air problem to me...

If you decide to go with the set off eBay, I can reccomend the seller.

Bought front & back disks & pads off him last week for the Octy.

Turned up 24 hours after ordering and got a discount on the postage when buying both (you'll need to email him to ask about this and then click "ask seller to send me an invoice" when paying to get the agreed postage rate).

Can't comment on the parts yet really as they've only been on a day and are still bedding in.

Thats good to hear Jimbo, thanks.

Have a quote of £50 to fit the discs and pads to the car, front and rear, so just need to grab a good deal on the brakes :)
