Hi,

Few weeks ago I had a common problem with my heater blower - the resistor blew and i was only able to use setting number four. The info on this site looked promising so i was optimistic about fixing it (replacing the resistor). Unfortunately, before i could do this, the blower stopped working altogether! What i mean by this is that there is no output of air whether the fan is on 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4!

I imagine that the first step may (still) be to replace the reististor however since setting 4 doesn't use the resistor i don't know what to do next:confused:.

Would appreciate any help!

I'm guessing the resistor needs replacing regardless, but it might be worth getting a VAG-COM readout to see if any faults are logged before doing that as you may well need a new unit completely.

just bought myself a fabia 1.4TDi classic 2003 on a 53 plate from a car auction.

I've now found that the heater fan is completely dead, checked the fuse which was fine. i'm guessing the is should replace the resister.

would be grateful for any help cheers

Using the VAG seems like good advice. Guess that means a trip to the dealers, which i was hoping to avoid - they're a long way away. Any other ideas for repairs? Thanks

I assume the motor on full power (setting number 4 ) is directly connected to the 12 volts supply. At first I would try and get to the motor connections on the motor and test it with the 12 volt battery. If not possible I would remove the fan and motor completely ,. (be careful with powering the motor out of the car your fingers could be cut on the fan blades) . There may be more than two wires on the motor possibly a signal back to sense the motor is turning (simular to a CPU fan on a computer). Perhaps a Mechanic has removed a motor at sometime, and could help?

Start searching on this site - at least one repair - and I also remember joking with another poster about a kit to reduce the cost further or even a total control

Hi all just an update on how I'm getting on with my new fabia

finally got round to fixing my fan at the weekend, not only had the resister gone the actual fan motor had burnt out as well. the quote i got from my local skoda garage was £140 for the motor and fan without the plastic surround, however i did mange to source a reconditioned fan for £57 incl delivery from V-DUBS LTD.

I'm gonna a get the replacement resister new from the skoda garage as from what I've read on here they have a short life span.
