Hi,

Just to introduce myself, having registered a few days ago to take a look around. I’m replacing my trusty Peugeot 406 Estate with an Octavia 1.9 TDi Ambiente Combi in Diamond Silver, which should arrive in the next few days.

My first Skoda, but continuing a tradition, my Father had a new Octavia Combi in 1970, his first new car and only replaced as a family car when he changed jobs to one that included a company car.

I’ve had a look around, and you all seem a friendly bunch, even down to the usual forum banter and I’m pretty sure you will be getting some questions from me as I tailor the car to my needs over the coming weeks.

My company are supplying the Octavia, so I’m not going to be going mad with re-maps as, although it effectively owned by me on a ‘car ownership scheme’, somehow I can’t see them wearing it on the insurance side. TBH I would have chosen one instead of the big Pug, but they couldn’t source one at the time apparently.

The car will be used for the lugging stuff about at work that I need and for leisure, including European trips, lugging mountain bikes, people and other stuff about. Some of the things I will be looking at will be connecting my ipod up properly rather than the fm transmitter I’m using currently, I understand that the stock headunit/CD tracker have the facility for this? Some recommendations for roof bars to fit my bike racks etc., on would be good and hints on a discrete tow bar, preferably the detachable type with the minimum of bumper modification too.

I was just wondering that the other day, there are some other old family pics I was thinking of too, next time I'm down there I'll try to go on a search and rescue mission. Somewhere I have some of a mint white one that was at a show in Dorset I was at, I'll have a look tomorrow and see if I can post them up somewhere.
