Am I Thick??

Featured Replies

Trying to find which oil.

1) Car 2ltr 140bhp dsg new 21/01/2008 Mileage 183.

2) Looked at various threads:-

a) Is it timed or flex. servicing. Tried the hold trip button in shows service due in ---miles

Maybe not enough miles to calibate?

B) Dont think it has diesel particulate filter. I.D. plate 7GG with mine is 0GG.

c) Looked at OIL thread some of those mentioned do not appear in my handbook.

3) Fixed time service VW 505 01 Only for engines without particle filter

VW 507 00 Only for engines with filter.

Flexible service VW 506 01 Only for engines without filter

VW 507 00

Fixed time QG0,QG2 Flexible QG1 do these QG appear anywhere on the vehicle.

Thanks for any HELP.

From the factory you will need VW507 oil.

The QG will appear on the sticker in the boot under the carpet near the spare wheel well.

No, your definitely not thick, but you have come to the right place to ask questions!

Normally the Octy is supplied with variable servicing unless you ask specifically for fixed (e.g. servicing deal with the dealer).

On variable servicing, it normally takes up to 500 miles for the car to calculate your next service based on your driving style.

You can also find the service interval in the service log book.

PD140 engine doesnt have the dpf, I think the vrs 170 version does.

As cheezemonkhai says, VW507 is the oil for variable servicing. Keep a close eye on the dip stick, they can be quite thirsty!:)

Thirsty??

Mine uses 1 ltr of oil in between 10,000 mile services.Does that seem normal?

The 2 litre lump is a thirsty little blighter, your 1.9 should be much better (my PD 130 used hardly any oil).

My 2.0 TDI uses about a litre every 9,000 miles, SWMBO's loan Audi with the same engine has just had a litre of 507.00 after 2,900 miles.

But as we all know, Skoda get the crap engines while Audi get the best ones

I've used 2.5 litres since its last service 11,000 miles ago. Given that other cars I have owned (not Skoda) have hardly used a drop it came as a bit of a surprise. Looking at other threads its pretty normal for this engine and I'm not spewing black smoke out the back unless I floor it.

Interesting observation:

I've had 2 MkII's with the same 2.0TDI lump.

The first one was run in as gently as possible for the first 1500 miles and from that point on it drank oil like it was going out of fashion.

My current Octavia II was run in pretty hard as in fully run in at about 300 miles. It uses about a third the amount of oil and does noticeably better in certain 'benchmark' tests.

The vRS TDI was run in in a similar fashion and didn't show any signs of oil usage up until the point the car was reshaped.

Maybe my driving style contributes to the oil use. Gentle "Sunday" style driving 25 miles going to work (2500 to 3000rpm peaks), then a good blast back (quite often getting up around 4000rpm before changes). Just love that third and fourth gear!

Sounds like my daily driving style.

No wonder my engine has started drinking coolant :(

Thanks to all for info.

Have bought a litre Castrol Edge 5w-30 to keep in boot for top ups.

Getting a bit long in the tooth now it cost (£13) what I earned in a month on starting work!!!!!!

By the way the dip stick (2ltr 140) is the worst I've had. Flimsy and not easy to "read".

Anyway thanks again.

I ordered 5lts from Opie Oils (one of the site sponsors) and it worked out at less than £8/ltr.

Excellent service too

I seem to need a litre every 6 - 8k miles between variable services.
